gdansk on your own

I have been doing lots of research for my upcoming Baltic cruise and find the answers on this post tremendously useful. I am thinking about taking the Princess "Gdansk on your own" tour where I would be dropped off in Gdansk and I could wander for a few hours. My question is whether Gdansk is easy to do on your own. I am bit concerned that the signs are not in English. Are there lots of people in Gdansk who speak English. For those who have taken Princess before, where is the drop off point and is it close to the tourist sites? Thanks for your response in advance

I will also be on Star Princess to the Baltic, and I plan to take the on your own tour to Gdansk also. I have heard that the shuttle will drop you off close to St. Mary's Church, but I forgot where I heard that from and so I could be mistaken.

Does anyone know if there is a way I can go to Malbok Castle from Gdansk, and then come back to Gdansk to catch the shuttle back to the ship?
