I was on cruise in this past January with a stop in Nassau. When I was there I took a cab to a beach somewhere near Atlantis(I could see it further down on the beach , but did not go to Atlantis. I am going back next year and would like to go to that beach again. However, I dont remember the name of the beach. Is there a name for that strip of beach?

The beach on Paradise Island is Cabbage Beach which runs the length from Atlantis Cove on the west end, to the Golf course on the east. The area you entered is the public beach next the the RUI (used to be the Sheraton Grand). Ask the cab driver to take you to the public walkway for Cabbage Beach.

I too will be there in a few weeks.... Can you tell me if there are chairs etc. to rent on the beach and is it easy to get a taxi back to the dock...????
A few years ago I did a RCCL tour and they took us to some beach to the left of the Atlantis Resort, can one go there on their own.???
Any information would be appreciated as we are just looking for a nice beach to spend a couple of hours.

There are chairs for rent on the public beach (entry next to the RIU hotel). There are no restrooms or snak bars available. Cabs can be found in front, or at the RIU next door. This area is on the right (east) of Atlantis and the RIU beaches.
As for the Atlantis beach which is were you were last time, you need to be a guest of Atlantis, or on one of its' ship tours in order to use this area and the bar/snak shack nearby.

The RIU is the Hotel that is right next door to the Atlantis on the eastern side. It used to be the Sheraton Grand. The public entry is just east of the RIU hotel .. There's a sign there directing you to the beach.

If you are looking for amenities such as a bar or snak shop, you 'll have to head to either the British Colonial Hilton on the Harbour ($15 entry fee) or take a jitney for $1 to the Wyndham or Nassau Beach Hotel on Cable Beach.
The #10 jitney leaves every few minutes from downtown at McDonalds and takes only 10 minutes to Cable Beach.
Cabbage Beach at Paradise Island has no amenities, no restrooms, no daiguiri bar..

Is Cabbbage Beach within walking distance of the Atlantis? Want to see Atlantis and then walk to beach if this is possible. We are only in port from 8:30am to 2pm. Thanks!

Cabbage Beach is the SAME beach that Atlantis sits on. To enter the public part of the beach, just head out the lobby doors at Atlantis Coral or Beach Tower and go left. It's about 50 meters up the block, past the RIU. The pathway leads you over the dunes and down to the beach.

Sorry, but what is a jitney? IT's only a 1.00? Do you get it where you dock and it takes you to Atlantis area?

Jitneys are small mini buses that hold about 30 people and have routes throughout the island. Some run from downtown Nassau to Cable Beach (#10), some run to the mall (#1) and other go elsewhere. NONE go to Paradise Island or Atlantis. they are not allowed to cross the bridge.
You can pick up the jitney to Cable beach from downtown across the street from the British Colonial Hilton just outside McDonalds.
To get to the Atlantis, you can either take a cab for $4 pp door to door, or take the ferryboat from the nearby wharf to Paradise Dock, and walk about 5 blocks to Atlantis, or another 2 blocks to the Public Beach.
