And the same right back to you! I'm a "secretary" (Assistant to the VP is my title), and my boss is great. He hasn't mentioned anything TODAY, but I won't complain because he bought be a gift card for a salon (to pamper myself) for my birthday a few weeks ago. I'm sure he'll remember...it'll just take a while!
I leave on NOS 5/15, and am looking forward to a nice vacation with my DH!

Not only did I not get any good wishes, let alone a lunch or a card, one of the executives had me go out and pick HIM up a sandwich. Guess I ought to be happy he gave me money for it.

One of my bosses is on vacation this week. I saw my other boss for about 5 minutes this morning. One of the Recruiters did wish me a Happy Secretary's Day this morning. They are really good bosses and probably have no idea what today is.

Well I am an Admin. Asst. don't like being called a Secretary, as I do way more than just the "secretary" duties, but I didn't even know it was today. One of the girls in the office told me...so I put on our whiteboard...be nice to me today....and all I got was a 'NOT' beside it and a huge pile of work from my boss...I guess I can't complain...I don't only support him, I directly and indirectly support 250 others....boo hoo! I think the week will go by with no appreciation shown again...with the exception of my pay cheque...I LOVE MY JOB, but sometimes a pat on the back or a flipping flower would be nice.

Advertisers/Hallmark offers them the chance to say "Thank you"... and they still don't have the time to bother

I guess I am one of the lucky Admin. Asst. I got a $50 gift card to Best Buy. I guess my boss heard that I wanted to purchase a new camera for my upcoming cruises. I would be happy even if I didn't get anything. I have been blessed with a perfect boss, a job that pays me well enough for me to afford two cruises a year and the vacation time to take them (3 weeks). And besides, I have a job and there are alot of people out there that don't even have that. So, everyone out there that is complaining stop. Your boss kept you around. He/She could always fire you and give your job to someone who would be willing to work even without anything for Admin. Asst. Day.

Dcourt, of course you're right, and today (Thursday) I totally agree with you. But yesterday I felt just like Nlptes. I just have to remind myself that my life begins when I walk back in the door of my house and I'm with my family. The rest of this is just enabling me to give my family what they need. I guess knowing that is all the thanks I need. Nothing else matters. Am I right or am I right?! Plus, it helps knowing that I leave on my cruise in 4 DAYS!!!!!

I just have to reply to all these posts, because it's making me angry...
I can't believe that so many Administrative Professionals did not have so much as a "thank you" on your special day. I am an employer, and believe me, I know how valuable administrative employees are to a business. Frankly, my office would shut down without the great staff we have here. I understand that, and two of the other attorneys here share my view, thank goodness. My wonderful assistant keeps me straight and keeps me organized, and I am extremely grateful to her for that. Additionally, when she's not here, there are 2 other legal assistants here in the office that do a great job of picking up where she left off.
It truly angers me when employers deliberately do not recognize their administrative employees. I can't imagine not remembering the very people who make your offices run smoothly. I mean, to accidentally and honestly forget is one thing, but to make a statement like, "It's nothing but a Hallmark day" is callous and cold.
Kudos to the employers mentioned on this board who showed their appreciation to their valuable employees! And shame on the ones who did not.
Sorry... I just had to vent about this. This kind of behavior really gets under my skin!

I still say the professionalism should be in "thanking" these employees in a professional manner -- with recognition, raises and bonuses -- and not with tokens.

Nothing from my "big boss" but I did get flowers from the Special Response Teams that I support as part of my employment. I have an interesting job, like almost everyone I work with, get lots of vacation due to working hours and comp time and .....nobody hassles me about being on these cruise boards.
A lot of the people I work with do special things for me all year long, they are very appreciative of what I do. But a raise would be nice.

EAB2233 -
Thanks so very much for those kind words about administrative assistants. It is so nice to hear that some people truly do appreciate us. My boss is the one that made the "callous and cold" remark about it being a Hallmark day. I am also a legal assistant and do my very best for him and have for 18 years. When he made that remark, it truly upset me. Once again, thanks for those very, very kind words!!! All bosses should be like you!

EAB2233 - I must also say thank you and wish your message could magically appear in front of any one of the 10 sales people I work for and our 2 bosses. This BIG boss (General Manager - NOT my bosses) sent flowers around late yesterday afternoon. It is better late than never and I do appreciate it.
Bookit - I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE and if our company actually did that I'd probably not complain as much. The "cost of living raise" (that's all we get) we were supposed to get April 1 was pushed to Oct 1. I work for a large media company, must be all that money they have to pay lawyers for Howard Stern!!!
OK, enough... at least my website provides me extra cash with which to cruise occasionally! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you Vanilousky, For more than 25 years I had provided Administrative to Executive level assistance to my many bosses. I am happy to say that it was rare to be forgotten and for that I will be eternally grateful. I agree also, a simple thank-you card even if late, would say a thousand words.
This year I am unemployed with no prospects in site. Your greeting means even more to me now. The cruise critic family is my "office" peer support network.
