I will be on the Grand Princess next week in the mediterranean and wanted some advice from you guys that have been before....binoculars or no binoculars. Curious as to how much they would be used. Thanks for your replies.

I always travel with binaculars...the one time I forgot I really regreted it.
Lots to look at from a cruise ship and even on shore excursions.
That being said, I don't take the big pair..I have a small set slightly larger than a deck of cards. I think the brand is Tasco. (I would take the big pair to alaska.)

If you are sailing by the Stromboli Volcano, you will want binoculars. We passed at 11:45 p.m., and the volcano erupted - the pictures we took do not do it justice.

It may depend on where you are going. We're taking a pair of binoculars with us to look at the decorated ceilings in churches, palaces, etc. Some of the ceilings are beautiful but difficult to see without a little help.

I would go with the consensus, definately take a pair of binoculars. Besides the other things mentioned, it can be fun to look at the decks of the other cruise ships and yachts you may see.

Alaska was the only tour on which I lugged around a huge pair of binoculars, more to spot the wildlife than anything else. Now, to save space and weight, I just bought a digital camera with a super-magnifying lens. Not only can I see distant objects close up, I can also take a picture of them!
