Hello--
I've been so busy working to pay for this upcoming cruise, I haven't had time to plan my excursions http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
I'm wondering what are absolute "MUST-SEE, MUST-DO, MUST-BUY" at each of these ports. (We've only done Eastern Caribbean cruises). We are travelling without kids this time, so 4 adults, in early 40s....
Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!

Grand Cayman - definitely Stingray City is not to be missed. Book the excursion on the ship or book your own but be sure to go.

Cozumel....rent a jeep and drive around the island. Be sure to check out El Mirador (natural bride). Paradise Beach is a great beach, and Coconuts restaraunt is great also! In town there is a place to get Corona's for $1.00 If we go back we may just spend the day there! LOL
Grand Cayman.... Stingray City! We used www.nativeway.com (http://www.nativeway.com) and LOVED spending the day with them. Well worth it, and it was a nice small group. Not 100 plus people like we saw on some of the boats.

Cayman -- We enjoyed Sting Ray tour but the submarine is a fun thing for non-divers (especially if you can see out the front window as well as your own port hole). Shopping in Cayman is good for booze (but not much cheaper than ship) and cosmetics. Also a neat shop for old coins that faces the port. Also nice beaches.
Cozumel -- Shop! I didn't care for the beaches here. I have heard great things about the dolphin thing and plan to do that in December.

If you're into horseback riding, Ocho Ricos has a great excursion where they take the horses into the ocean up to their necks. Beginners are welcome.

Caymen...definately Stingray City...we went thru Capt. Marvins and got excellent service and small group. They even gave each paying adult a rum cake when we left.
Ocho Rios...climbed Dunns River Falls. I had an awesome time. It was challenging and yet exhiliarating. I'm nearly 50 and made it just fine. We took the party boat over to the falls so to avoid the shopping area. The venders tend to be quite aggressive. The water at the beach at the bottom of the falls is like a bathtub, it's soooo warm.

Tammy, we did horseback riding in Jamaica in January. I had never ridden before and it wasn't frightening at all, in fact, it was one of the highlights of our cruise! We used Hooves (http://www.hoovesjamaica.com/) and I highly recommend them. We did the beach ride. They will pick you up at the pier, drive you to their stables (around 20 minutes) get you set up with your horse and give you some instructions and then your guide will lead you down the mountain trail the ends up at the beach. There, you rest, sample some jamaican food and fruit drink, take off whatever you wore over your bathing suit, and ride the horses in the ocean! It's really an amazing experience, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Cozumel:Go to www.Dolphindiscovery.com.Book (http://www.Dolphindiscovery.com.Book) the Royal dolphin swim, now.It is very expensive and worth every penny. If you do not pre book, you will loose out.We docked with 9 other ships and people were given erroneous info and were very dissapointed to miss out. Plan on a 10.00 cab ride each way and 10.00/pp to enter Chankenaab. They offer a video of your excursion(49.95) and pics(14-20 each)The pics are a rip off. When you are finished with the dophins ,have some lunch on the beach, there is a small restaurant there and enjoy some snorkeling. You can tour the park which has some ruins and its lovely. It will be the highlight of your trip.
Grand Cayman:Capt.Marvin or Capt Bryan in Grand Cayman are great however, let me caution you that the waves are usually rougher so if you are inexperienced snorklers you will eat alot of salthttp://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Find a stingray city tour only(you actually can walk in the water)and spend the rest of the day at 7 mile beach. Forget the Turtle farm and Hell, what a waste!

Dkrimmel...funny you should mention the choppy water. 3 weeks ago we were in GC and went w/ Capt. Marvins. At the rip ol' age of 49, I tried snorkeling for my first time. After looking underwater for the first time, I was awestruck, came up to tell DH, only to get slapped in the face w/ a mouthful of the saltiest water!! I had a blast, though. All 3 stops were fantastic, with the stingrays being the greatest. I haven't mastered the mouthpiece as of yet, but just gives me another reason to head back in the future. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If you like water, these were some of the best excursions we've done:
Grand Cayman - Book the stingray island and snorkeling tour with Captain Marvin. Not crowded and fun.
Ocho Rios - Schedule Peat Taylor for a trip to climb Dunns River Falls (you will get there before the crowds) and then a tour of the island. He will take you whereever you request. My suggestion is to end the trip at Margaritaville.
Both of these have there own websites. I was hesitant at first to book on my own, but it turned out great.
Have a great time!

emilymad, we thought it was great and worth more then it was. The boats were a trip and the secluded beach and BBQ were beautiful. I would do it again if given the chance.

Sometimes (fortunately, not always http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) the water is so choppy in Grand Cayman that even if the ship tenders, most of the shore excursions are cancelled (as well as those by reputable independents) so we alway have a PlanB!

In Cozumel you should go to Excart. We have been there 4 times. It is absolutely beautiful. You can swim in the caves they have gorgous grounds, pure paradise. You can go to a really busy area or you can find a more secluded place if you walk around. There are little cove to sit there are hammocks there are restaurants. They offer swimming with the dolphins for a fee. They have a butter fly farm. Its really a great day.

We did the Fiesta Party boat in Cozumel. Well, I think I remember it...lol. Fun time, even for an old fa.t like me. Obviously if you haven't done the "falls" in Ocho Rios this is a must. Grand Cayman is beach time for us, but caution about the prices for lunch at the beach...even 10 years ago two hotdogs, two bags of chips and two sodas were over $16.

This will be our 3rd time in Nassau as well. We found out that the British Colonial Hilton allows non-guests to use the pool and beach area for a small fee so we might be doing that. From the photo on the website it doesn't look like it's all that far from the cruise ship dock. The Wyndham Crystal Palace also has day passes, but I think that might be a longer taxi drive (I'm not sure where it's located).
