Just wondering if Red Hat Ladies have been seen aboard any of the RCL ships? If yes were they dressed to kill or only pins, necklaces, etc?
Sincerely,
Lady Wisteria

Haven't seen any on the cruises I have been on, but there are some here in my hometown. They had it all on...pretty funny looking! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif My daughter sat for a young mom the other day and she wore an all red outfit to the Kentucky Derby party. Red hat, dress, shoes, pocketbook, red flowered necklace and flowers on her hat and pocketbook. She was a sight!

There was a group of them on the Sovereign last October. It was kind of funny, they dressed to the nines in their red hats for formal night. There were a couple up on the pool deck for the Sail Away Party/Buffet at midnight when we left Nassau and they were screaming because the wind was ripping those big ole red hats right off their head.

I saw a few on our recent Explorer cruise. What is the red hat thing all about?

It's a club of ladies over age 50, who are determined to have fun. They are led by a Queen (or Queens?) and have a web site. There are local chapters under a national organization. The local chapters set up teas, lunches, speakers, charitable activites, trips, etc. -- whatever the members propose. I saw an article in Southern Living about them, and would love to hook up with a chapter here.

Imagine my surprise when I just read that our town has 5 Chapters. My favorite was the "Red Hattitude Girls."
The young lady I mentioned above is not old enough for the society. Her mother is a member, so she must be a want-a-be!

There was a group on the Mariner in January. I believe that one of them won a couple's mud massage the first day. Had to be interesting!

I talked to one group in my area that were discussing going roller skating. At the age of 70 with bad knees and hips, I don't think I want to try that. They do sound like a great group of women who are celebrating age. The line from the poem goes something like "When I grow old, I shall wear purple with a red hat ..."

They were on one of our cruises too, I think the Sovereign in Jan. 04. They didn't look like they were much fun http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Just crabby old ladies. No one ever smiled.
Oh well, maybe they were up partying all night and cranky during the day? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi everyone, I am a new member since January 2004. My Queen Mother was a former Girl Scout leader of mine and decided it was time for us to have fun without the responsibility of girls. We have done several outings - Farmers Market tour, brewery tour!! and a train ride to Hartsville, Ohio with oodles of shopping.
Looking forward to seeing any red hats on our May 23rd cruise to the Mexican Riviera. =====I already have my purple dress for formal night.

I was on the Monarch of the Seas the last week of March and there were about 200 Red Hat Ladies onboard. They were a blast! They were completly decked out in purple outfits and red hats. They showed up on formal night with red feather boas and some of the most elaborate hats I've ever seen. They even had a purple pajama breakfast. They kept teasing my friend and I. They said they could sign us up, but we were only allowed to wear pink and lavender beacause we were too young!

I'm Queen Mum of our Red Hat chapter, and we laugh a lot at our monthly Red Hat Society Meetings. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
When was the last time you have laughed so hard that you peed your pants? Was that a one or two panty liner Red Hat meeting? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Growing old does not have to be a bumber. It is wonderful to say and believe, "I'm over 50 and I don't have to be cool anymore - I'll wear and eat and be exactly ME!" http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

So did I! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
The first time I saw the Red Hat Ladies I thought "What on earth?" My mother was asked to join the group in our hometown but declined because she has so many other interests. They had their own float in our homecoming parade and boy did they look like they were having fun!

Hi, everyone! I'm the Queen Mother of the Mad Hatters of Alpharetta. Every chapter is different! There are some that are old and cranky, there are some that have lots of fun whatever they do, and there are some that are just Pink Hatters - all younger than 50. In fact, my daughter is starting a chapter of Pink Hatters at her college! Our group meets once a month, and we have LOTS of great things planned! If you want to know what the Red Hat Society is all about, check out their web site: www.redhatsociety.com (http://www.redhatsociety.com). A chapter is what you make it!

I have to laugh at all the posts. There are over 25,000 chapters in 17 countries. It's the fast grow ladies association in the world.
I am a QM (Queen Mum) for Bodacious Babes (and we are)in Phoenix, AZ. When our chapter started, two years ago, there were not 3,000 chapters worldwide.
Our chapter is anything but sour, old ladies.
When we go to the casino (a lot) decked out in our finery gamblers will stop just to watch the parade. We party and we party hard. Casinos will send limos and bus (free of charge) for us to be in their casino. Let's just say we liven up the place. BTW, we don't gamble but do eat and drink. LOL
Our youngest member is 34 (Pink Hatter) and oldest 85. Rose, the 85 year old, can run most people into the ground.
What amazes me is the number of men that have asked to try on our red hats. You can view the pictures of some at http://www.redhatphx.com then click on Marvelous Macho Men. Make sure you check out the "Bud Babes" Their wives laughed their heads off.
If you are sailing on the Monarch Oct 25th be aware there will be 50 us on board. We actually have decided to have our PJ Party in one of the lounge. Thinking maybe the second night.
Expect to see lots of feathers, glitz and glamour every night.
Anyone dumb enough to go outside on a ship with a large hat on deserved to have that hat blow away.
