I know I could search thru posts and probably find this information eventually, but please if someone remembers what they paid for taxi fare will you share that info with me? I got a quote from Angie for 35 Euros for 2 people with luggage and need to get back to her if we want her to pick us up, but don't know if that is a reasonable amount for that distance or not. We have already booked her to take our entire party of 7 from the AC Diplomatic Hotel to the port on the day the cruise leaves Barcelona. Sissy

I believe so - Angie offered the same 35E rate to take four of us and our luggage from an airport run (to either downtown or the cruise terminal), and 28E from downtown to the pier. In contrast, Barcelona Taxi quoted us 60E for an airport run. Guess which one we're going with. :D

Angie also gave us a quote of 55E for an airport run if we had six in our party. I didn't inquire if she had any vehicles capable of taking more than that number.

We paid 30Euro from the port to the airport with Barcelona Taxi. They were great. I originally booked Angie but when I tried (many times) to get her to re-confirm our reservation, I couldn't get her to respond.

A regular taxi from the airport to the city should run you about 20€ with a little extra perhaps for luggage if you have a lot and not including tip which is about 10% unless the rates have gone up a lot.The taxi stands are out front.

We will be in BCN. in Sept. and got a qoute of 60 euros for airport to our hotel, Gran Hotel Havena. We are now sharing with another couple on our flight for 35 euros with Angie, includes 4 large pieces of luggage and 4 carry ons.

you can stand in queue at the airport for a taxi for 20-25E but if you want the convenience and ease of having someone wait for you, it'll cost more. We're using Angie.

Is anyone arriving in Barcelona on 9/30/05 in the afternoon that might want to share a cab with Angie? Right now, there are only 2 of us, so we'd love to share!

there seems to be literally thousands of taxis around the airport area at Barcelona, so waiting for a taxi shouldn't be problematic. There is also a shuttle bus, going from right outside of the airport to the top of the Ramblas, which is really efficient. When we went last year, we caught a taxi to the hotel (we were worried we wouldn't find it!), and the shuttle bus back - if my memory serves me correctly, it took about half an hour.

We took the Aerobus for around $4.00 each from the airport to Placa Cayaluyna (sp) in the heart of the city and walked a few blocks to the hotel.

We used Angie this past July off of the Millennium. We were six people with a lot of luggage. She sent a driver with a SUV and a small trailer on the back. The charge was 45 euros from the port to the Apsis Atrium Palace. The driver had a sign at the port with my name on it and off we walked with him. Others had to wait about an hour in the sun on the taxi line. Also I was not happy with the regular taxis in Barcelona. Going from the port to the Columbus Monument, one driver said it would be about 5 euros. We got to the monument and the meter said 4.10 and he said 10 euros. Two days later we when we were going from the hotel to the airport, the taxi driver started the meter when he got to the hotel, reported to the hotel that he was there and loaded the luggage all with the meter running. When we got to the airport, the meter read 23 euros. The driver told us 32 euros because there was two of us and luggage. We just gave it to him to get away. The same thing happened to the other two couples who went separately to the airport. One was told the same as us and the other was told that the fare went up because it was Sunday. I should have used Angie for the trip from the hotel to the airport but I never expected this problem. Use her company!!

Our group of 4 has signed up for the Celebrity Tour of Barcelona on the morning we get off the ship. This is the one that is designed for those cruisers who have a late day flight or are on an extended stay in Barcelona after the cruise. We thought this would be a good way to get an overview of the city before going out on our own in the late afternoon/early evening. The way I read the description they will take us and our luggage on a bus tour of the city and then deposit us at our hotel. Has anyone done this - does it work the way they say? We are are the Hotel Continental Placate (sp?) for one night after the cruise. Do you anticipate we will have problems getting a taxi from the hotel to the airport on the morning of our flight? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Buyer beware. We found nearly every taxi in barcelona to be a rip off. Although the meter is running, they end up adding many additional charges and then won't let you out of the cab until you pay them. I thought taxis in Barcelona were terrible for this. We just came back from an extensive med trip and they were the worst.

We stayed at the Hilton in Barcelona. Taxi ride to airport was 13 minutes! We needed a van due to the amount of our luggage (and 4 people). Front desk tells me 15-20 euros max. Asked cab driver he said 40 euors! What a rip! at that point, sure, I could have ordered another taxi and try to negotiate, but it takes a while to get one.

On another trip to Las Ramblas from our hotel, everyone said it should of been 8-10 Euors. Our was 18! We had two other similar instances. One could say I was a sap, but I tried each time to negotiatiate. They have you over a barrel. I'll write another post on the number of people pick pocketed while there. Be aware!!!

We used Angie's company in June from the airport to our hotel (Apsis Atrium Palace), from the hotel to the ship, and from the ship to the airport. The charges were 35 euros, 25 euros, and 35 euros respectively for up to 4 people with luggage. It was very convenient to have a driver waiting for us each time with a minivan. Many of the taxis were regular sedans that would not have fit all of our luggage. Angie has a new e-mail address as she was having problems with her old one: barcelonataxi@barcelonataxivan.com (barcelonataxi@barcelonataxivan.com)
We highly recommend her services. Please note that the driver only accepted payment in euros, so you will need to have some on hand before leaving the airport.

We stayed at the AC Diplomatic post cruise on the Millenium in 2003. The hotel flagged a taxi and it took us to the airport with baggage. The total was 18 Euros and with tip came to 20. The driver was very friendly and never tried to rip us off! There are surcharges in the late evening that may boost the price up a little more.

We booked www.barcelonataxivan.com (http://www.barcelonataxivan.com) (Used to to Barcelona Taxi Tours) last year for this past May's transport needs in BCN.

We were charged 25 euros a/p to hotel and 20 euros from hotel to pier. Can't say enough about the prompt, extremely courteous service we received upon arrival. I've booked Aurelio again for next November's TA out of BCN. (I HATE TAXI CABS AND WILL NEVER, UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, WAIT IN LINE FOR A CAB ANYWHERE! I prefer to have someone waiting for ME!)

Our RCCL cruise leaves Barcelona on Oct 3 - we are staying in Barcelona for a few days before we sail. I have an email out to Angie, but she hasn't responded yet to confirm.

Thanks,

I understand there is an Aerobus shuttle that goes from the airport to the Las Ramblas (Playa de Catalyuna sp??).

Does anyone know how far a walk that would be to the Hotel Continental Barcelona? I don't mind a block or two, as we will only have a piece of luggage each to pull. Thanks.

We are going to the same hotel Aug 28, 2005. it is one block. You can email that hotel and ask any question and they are happy to answer.

When do you go.

We arrive Oct 7 and stay one night. If it's only one block then I would just as soon take the Aeorbus and spend the remainder elsewhere. When you start to add up the cost of all the transportation required over the course of the trip - it's pretty dear. Besides a good walk with do me good considering what I will be facing in terms of calories over the course of the week!

Tom - Her last email to me came from angietaxi33@yahoo.com.

Golden Princess - we took the RENFE red-and-white train from El Prat to Plaza Catalunya, and from there, you can walk one block to your hotel. We exchanged $5 at the airport and that gave us enough euros to get downtown. Not only was the train less expensive, it got us there faster, because the bus stops at hotels along the way to pick up and drop off passengers. Then we ambled down Las Ramblas to the American Express travel office where we exchanged dollars for euros at a more reasonable exchange rate and without paying a fee (it's waived for platinum card holders). Don't bet the guys on Las Ramblas 50 euros that you can find the pea beneath the matchbox - you'll probably be wrong! :D

It's only a short block - when you emerge from the underground train station, the Continental should be visible, but feel free to ask anybody walking through the square. We did, and got a response in flawless English, "I don't know - I'm a tourist too!" This website provides more info (and helpful photos) of the Aerobus and RENFA trains:

Thank you all for posting you experiences and warnings, we have decided to book Angie for the trip from the airport to the AC Diplomatic hotel, we had already booked a van for our whole group of 6 adults and a child plus a ton of luggage and baby paraphanalia from the hotel to the ship the following day. I know she charges more than the taxi companies, but I think after the long flight it will be a welcome sight to see someone standing at the airport holding up a sign with my name and waiting to take our bags and take us to our hotel. Again thanks. Sissy

Smart thinking, SissyG - the last time we were there, it was just me and my wife and we were able to navigate the train system with our rolling suitcases. This time around, we'll be travelling with two 50+ in-laws and their luggage train, so we thought we'd better hire a van service! :D

If anyone is interested (I know it is very late for this), my wife and I have booked Angie and her folks for a ride from the airport in Barcelona on Air France around 2:40p on Mon, Aug 29 to our hotel, the Hotel Ritz. If anyone happens to be there at the same time and wants to share the ride to this hotel or another one close to that, we will have room for two others. At 2 or 4 people the fare is still 35 euros. Please reply here or to me directly at kkyle (at) midsouth.rr.com and we'll make the arrangements.

Just clarifying the cost to take the RENFE Train - how much do you estimate the euros/person to take the train? I gather from some of these posts that a taxi/couple is probably 20-25 euros. Even though I am 50+ ;) I am kind of looking forward to this mode of transportation as a little adventure.

Upon arrival, our family of four took the aeropuerto bus right out the main door from the terminal where we collected our baggage (6 very large bags). We did not wait more than a couple minutes to catch the bus.

The aeropuerto bus is great, fast and cheap. It runs every 15 minutes and I think it only cost us about 10 euros for all four of us to go from the airport non-stop directly to Placa Catalunya, the main center in Barcelona -- in about 20-30 minutes. From Placa Catalunya, we rolled our luggage a mere four or five blocks and were at our hotel, the Apsis Atrium Palace. The bus is well designed for accommodating bulky luggage and it is only one step off the street. You also don't need to have exact change, but you do need euros (which you can get before you leave for your trip or at an airport ATM machine). Why waste money on a taxi when you do even better with
great public transportation?

Goldenprincess: this website (for Continental & Continental Palacete) shows the distance from the Plaza Catalunya (where the airport bus & train stop). http://www.hotelcontinental.com/home_ramblas.htm

Janine - thanks for your endorsement of the bus - we are going to give it a try in Sept.
