If you flew in the day before your Port Can. cruise would you stay in an Orlando Hotel or go to Port Can. and stay there?

If you are using RCCL transfers then you would need to stay at or near Orlando airport as that is where they pick up. If you are renting a car or have other transportation set up the Ron Jon Surf Shop just opened a new resort in Cocoa Beach that seems to be a board favorite and there is also the Ramada that the crew stays at prior to joining the ship. These two are the closests hotels to the port that I know of just depends on your transportation needs. (it is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic from the airport to the port)

I would get to cape before the morning of....you may board the ship usually by 12:00 if not earlier....if you want to wait i guess it's o.k. but it makes me nervous...just in case of car problems, traffic, etc. There are many hotels by the port...radisson at the port lets you leave your car their and takes you on a shuttle.....saves the $70.00 dollar parking fee. But you need to make a reservation for the shuttle. if you have kids go to www.capecaribe (http://www.capecaribe) they have a great water slide and a beautiful place.....lots of others too...go to hotels.com for port canaveral
Have fun...

Our flight gets in around noon time the day before the cruise, we plan to rent a car at the MCO airport, stay at WDW resort hotel, start the magic going at downtown Disney. Drive down next morning to Cape Carnaveral, return the car rental at Avis, take the free shuttle to Port Carnaveral, then board MOS.

http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Me? I'd go to the Port, then head to Grills Restaurant and watch the ships head out to sea the day before. Nothing beats the anticipation, especially for kids. Head to the park right next door to Grills as an alternative.

We had rented a car and left for port canaveral around 9ish, had no traffic, got to Avis to drop off our car, the shuttle took us over around 10:30 and we waited in the terminal. Were the first ones to board around 11:30. This time coming up since I will be traveling with my mom, I found a hotel in Orlando that will also take us to the port for $38pp round trip, on our return it will also take us to the airport from the terminal if we decide not to stay another day . http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tammy1 - The hotel is the Quality Inn Airport at 2601 McCoy Rd.. They told me when you make your reservation you let them know you want the shuttle service to the port. Good luck with your decision. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Haven't seen great reviews about the Quality Inn but they do offer some good perks. I called and the transportation to Port Canaveral is still $35 per person round trip which leaves the hotel at 11:30 a.m. The shuttle to Sea World is $6 per person round trip as well. Has anyone stayed there recently and can offer some feedback?? Doesn't have to be the Ritz but don't want a dump either!
Thanks!

I realize these posts are old except the last one, but DO NOT go to the Quality Inn that is at the Orlando airport. An RCL rep sent us there when our last Mariner cruise was delayed by Hurricane Jeanne and the ship went to Miami. We went to the Quality Inn and had to go back to the airport the next morning to take a bus to the ship.
Anyhow, to make a long story short...The Quality Inn had urine stained sheets, prostitutes in the lobby and walking by the rooms. My wife had her purse stolen in the lobby. There were cockroaches in the room and cigarett butts on the floor of the room. This was the second room after we complained about the first. We ended up staying awake all night with our children sleeping in our arms because we wouldn't lie down on the beds. If it wasn't 10 PM when we got there after a nightmare of a trip we would have left, but we had no choice at that point but to stay. Please Please Please don't ever go there!!! It was NASTY!

On the way going I stayed near the port @ the Raddison, which provided at the time free shuttle service to the cruise terminal. Coming back I stayed in Orlando to be near the airport. I did this December 2002.
