View Full Version : TP: Deck 6 Balcony Room Opinions Please
honeymooner09-2006

Hi,
We are inches from booking Hawaii to Tahiti Cruise (09/06/06) for our honeymoon. How is the Deck 6 as far as noise goes we are looking at cabins in the aft, starboard side. Any opinions or better areas to look in? We are both heavy sleepers after years of living in NYC but it would be nice not to hear too much thumping or the band.
Any other tips?
TIA

TIA -- We first did this cruise when it was a Renaissance ship and had cabin #6070. It's on the port side and is the ninth cabin from the back of the ship. It was very quiet, and we liked this cabin so much that when we cruised on this ship after it became the Tahitian Princess, we asked for it again. If you look at the deck plan, I think #6070 is over a storage area. The cabins toward the back of the ship on the starboard side are over the Club bar and Club restaurant so I don't know about the noise factor for those cabins, so I'm probably not much help.

We had cabins 6024 and 6026 (connecting cabins) on the TP. We didn't notice any noice problems at all. This was closer to the front of the ship though.

we also had 6070 and chose to be in that same room again. very quiet and in the perfect location to everything. 1 floor below laundry, and just a few floors below the buffet/pizza bar. can't have a better room. the balcony seemed to be on the right side for sunrise and sunset. you will love it!!!

We're booked into one of the aft cabins (6090) at the recommendation of someone who had an aft cabin on Deck 6 in the past. She said the cabin was great and they didn't feel that much motion depsite being on the back of the ship, but she didn't say whether it was noisy or not. I have some photos she e-mailed me of the cabin, if you're interested.

We were in 6051 (balcony) on Pacific Princess (sis to Tahitian), and thought the cabin fine - no noise issues.
We were in 4031 (no balcony) on Oceania's Regatta in the Baltic this past August, another sister ship, no noise issues there either. Sis-in-law was in 6001 (no balcony), and said very noisy when thrusting at ports early in the AM.

We have had the luxury of enjoying an aft balcony on the Rhapsody of the Seas 2 years ago. We felt very fortunate to book #6093 for Feb 2006.on the Tahitian Princess.
Beth, if you'd be so kind to forward the photo's you received, it would be nice to see how deep the balcony actually is. Usually they are larger than the side balconies, and what we like most is......there's virtually no wind while cruising and you can see the views from both sides. Thanks! sfruetel@cox.net

My previous post was in error, sis-in-law was in 6004, not 6001.

I haven't stayed in it yet, but I'll let you know after our cruise in May/June! :) Another Cruise Critic person sent me the photos, I didn't take them myself. I think whether I made the right choice will mostly depend on whether DH gets seasick on this cruise. We're doing the Tahiti to Hawaii sailing, so there's a definite possibility that we could encounter some rough seas, and he does tend to get seasick, but he thinks if he doses up on Bonine and/or ginger pills, he should be OK.

I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who booked cabin # 6091, an owner's suite aboard the TP. I've booked it for the 27th of December for my wife and I to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. If someone out there has any pictures of the aft owner's suites, if you could forward them to me, or post them here, that would be awesome as well.:)

Calikak-thanks for sending the photo's of the aft balcony room. It appears that the balcony itself is around 10 feet deep. Looking forward to lounging back there! Only 7 weeks of waiting for our cruise.

There are photos of an owner's suite on the Pacific, sister to the Tahitian, on this website:
http://www.maritimematters.com/pacificprincess2-5.html
It's not the exact cabin you'll be in, it's on deck 7 instead, but it'll probably give you a sense of the space.

cmdchiefthom,
These pictures are of #6091 on the Tahitian Princess. This guy is an amazing photographer. The picture of the balcony (2nd from the bottom on page 4) is my desktop shot. We're in 6091 on July 12th Tahiti-Hawaii.
He provided the link on these boards back in 2004, so I thought it was okay to repost it.

Anyone cruising the area will love these shots.
Enjoy!

Nice set of photos, with a nice looking couple.
As one who can't seem to take good photos, I am always jealous of those who can.
Very pretty down there - we sure enjoyed our cruise on Pacific Princess (new), Tahiti to Sydney, 11-03, seeing much of the same sights.

Has anyone stayed in any of the BF balcony staterooms on the TP -- it is on desk 6 and the one we are booked in is 6084.
I was wondering if it "rocks" a lot, or if their is a lot of noise? Or any other reason we wouldn't want it? Would it be worth it to move to BA for $500.00 more per person?
Also, how much nicer are the mini-suites? Are they worth $800.00 more per person? By the way, this is for my honeymoon, so I'm williing to splurge within reason.
Thank you.

Larry...we are in 6093...which I think is next door or close to where you were? Our first time in an "aft cabin"...sounds like you thought it was awesome? Appreciate your feed-back! LuAnn

Having the aft cabin meant great views and a bit of privacy. Deck six has the best cabins - no one below you - you only see the sea when looking out or down. The HOT sun can make it too hot at times so keep all the curtains closed when not in the room !
Enjoy

LuAnn-
We were in 6093 on the 2-18-2006 TP cruise. I have photo's of the room and balcony. They have 2 straight-back chairs and 2 lounge chairs with a small table on the balcony. We had a party for 10 people and it worked great! Even had room for the floral arrangement on the balcony that we bought at LeMarche! Room was very quiet, and "Gil" took excellent care of things. Only problem we had was the bath water coming up through the drain.....but it stopped after 30 minutes and never was a problem again. Sail-away parties are a blast from the aft balconies. Keep your eye out for the "Spinner Dolphins" as the ship sails past Tahaa. They were located near the little red & white church. They escorted the ship for about 30 minutes until they were tired of playing!

Is there any coverage over these balconies as far as being seen from the higher decks? Are the rooms any narrower than the rooms on the side? We're hoping to go during the summer of '07.
Thanks!

denyse, my TA sent me some photos she took when she toured Pacific Princess (identical to Tahitian) and one of them is a shot down the back of the ship from above, and you can't see the balconies at all because of the angle of the ship. So, I'm pretty sure that unless you're leaning over the railing, they're totally private.

We were in 6014 last month for the Marquesas and loved it. That is the stairwell that the tenders use, so you are close for what really counts. Also, a quick 3 decks up to the pool, Lotus, inet dafe, bar, excercise roon, and one floor down to the casino, bar, show lounge, and piano bar. Plus, balcony is very private and has a little extra overhang above, very important when using the balcony whilst it is raining and shielded a little extra from the sun.
Plus, you can look almost straight down to watch the dolphins play in the bow wake.
You will hear the anchors, but it is only 4 times during the entire cruise and we never heard the show bands except from 9 - 10 one night at Rangiroa during the local Tahitian dancers and you will be there anyway (I forgot my camera, that's how I know).
Oh, yeah. Alex is awesome, never knew he was there unless we wanted something.

Beth - Thanks for the info. We almost did an aft balcony on the Liberty in Dec. but I wasn't sure about it so I passed. Do you know if the rooms are any narrower than the others?
I can't wait to book even though it's going to be more than a year away.
