I am Sailing on the Carnival Valor on 12-25-05. We are flying into Fort Lauderdale on 12-24-05. I would like to rent a car in FLL and then drop it off at the Port of Miami on 12-25-05 if this is possible. Or if there is a drop off at a hotel near the port.

Hertz has a downtown Miami location, but some of the other majors will shuttle you to the port from their MIA airport locations. There are no rental car companies AT the port.

If we are wanting to do a little sight seeing when we fly in on the 24 of December. Don't you think a rental car is are best bet. Is there any trouble with dropping the car off at the Miami airport and then take the shuttle to the Port. How much time do we need to plan to do this. Or would it be better to drop off at Hertz downtown? Do they have a shuttle service from there downtown location to the port?

Yes, having a car is by far the best bet for sightseeing!
I don't think Hertz will shuttle you from the downtown location, but as the port is downtown it's a short cab ride.
SOME rental car companies will shuttle you from the airport to the port, not all, check with whomever you choose to confirm that they do.
If you drop a car off at the airport and don't use a rental car shuttle, cabs are a fixed price of $21, and take about 20 minutes. If you wait for a shuttle it can take considerably longer as they don't run as frequently as they do to the airport.
