My friends and I wanted to arrange to have a day of swimming and snokeling around the beautiful bays and beaches on a panga (small boat). I love taking time to find local guides that will spend the day with us and rather use them than ship excursions.

I found obtaining information about private guides in Huatuclo was difficult but did find a great fellow -- Jesus Vasquez (sharkv74@yahoo.com (sharkv74@yahoo.com)). Jesus has a panga called the White Shark and he and his co-captain spent the day with us. Six of us spent a magnificent day with Jesus and it cost us $100 total for the day. We understand the prices change due to demand. Jesus has told me that he would meet us at the end of the Pier when we got off the ship and he was there waiting with his White Shark hat.

Below I will tell you what we did and what I would do differently next time.

Jesus met us at the end of the Pier and asked if we wanted to bring soda/water/beer and ice and we replied we did so we walked off to pick up our provisions for the day. I would suggest that you arrange with Jesus to have the soda/water and ice already at the White Shark. He said he would be happy to arrange that in the future.

We boarded the White Shark with Jesus and his co-captain and off we went. We stopped at one bay to pick up some snorkel gear for those who didn’t have it. I think it was $5 for the gear and . . . then

He took us on a lovely tour or beautiful bays and beaches. We stopped at a secluded beach for snorkeling which was great. We then headed back to another beach where there were restaurants and chairs – at this point Jesus suggested we go to “his friends” restaurant. We did think the food was a little expensive and it really wasn’t what we had were looking for but it was fine. After lunch we went into the wonderful water in the bay and had a super time UNTIL the large party boat came ashore and completely took over the bay. The party boat completely ruined the mood of the bay and we decided to leave. We then stopped off to drop off the snorkel equipment that some folks had rented at another bay and then went back to the ship.

We had an incredibly wonderful day and Jesus was great. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. We would do some things differently next time: we would have a large breakfast and skipped lunch and spent more time swimming, relaxing and snorkeling; we would have had Jesus bring aboard the soda, beer, ice and water and maybe some fruit; we would have spent more time at the first secluded beach and then had Jesus take us to a beach without restaurants and the possibility of the party boat coming in. We would definitely skip going to the beach that has the restaurants and either just have snacks or wait until we returned to the ship.

Jesus is wonderful about answering emails and please be sure to tell him that Linda says hello! Please let me know if you have any questions.
