OK, maybe my brain is just frozen up here in Minnesota right now, but I just cannot seem to figure this time zone thing out in regards to our Los Veranos tour in PV. I signed up for the 11:00 tour so I know I need to be to their office by 10:45am Puerto Vallarta time (which I believe in Central time). So I am planning on leaving the ship at 10:00am(PV time) to get to their office, but what time will it be on the ship? We are going May 3, so not sure if Daylight Savings is an issue as well. Thank you for spelling this out for me!

On all the cruises I've been on (13+), the cruise ship has you change time to match the port. If there is a time change, it will be posted in the daily, and usually your waiter will also remind you.

I just figured this out the other day for the NCL STAR, the ship doesn't adjust to local time...so I will be leaving the ship at 9AM ship time which will be 10AM PV time. Actually their office is only about 20 minutes away at the most, another 5 minutes to walk through the port lot and get the cheaper taxis. Also, our ship will be anchoring, so we will have to allow for tendering time.

If you book an excursion through the cruise line, everything goes by ship time, regardless of the actual time in the port.
On our cruise on the Star we jumped ahead an hour the first day at sea but were still an hour behind of actual port time. You will never miss the ship this way, but it can get very confusing. ( Ship time 1PM / PV time 2PM)

We are doing the same thing/same time the first week in April. Our ship (the Pride) does not change to port time in PV - so I will need to be at the office at 9:45 ship time which is 10:45 PV time.

OK - so here's the dirt on Puerto Vallarta and The Pride:
Here is a link to the Carnival Capers from the Pride posted by Ron from his trip on The Pride last week. It tells people to leave their clocks set for ship time even though PV time is one hour ahead. (Look in the Going Ashore section!)

Don't worry about it. The tour operators will be there when the ship arrives and will go by that time. We have done local tours in several Mexican ports, and the tours have basically started when the ship docked. Ships don't always arrive on time so everyone has to be flexible.

Here's what we experienced in early January...the ship stayed on it's own time...but PV was 1 hour ahead (based on their time)...we booked an excursion (not with the ship) and ran on their time..but they seemed to be very "flexible"...if you are booking with the ship...don't worry..if not...just email your vendor and hopefully they should help you figure it out? O.K. you start in LA or Long Beach. Thats on Pacific Time(GM -8). Most ships on the Mexico run change time to match the Mountain time zone (GM -7), which includes Cabo and Mazatlan. Puerto Vallarta is on Central time (GM -6), so the ship would have to change another hour for it. It's really not worth it for them, considering you already have 2 time changes (Lose an hour of sleep going down, gain one coming back). Matching Puerto would mean 4 time changes. The crew would probably mutiny after a couple weeks of that.
Enjoy your trip and forget about what time it is
