We have stayed at the Embassy Suites in Ft Lauderdale many, many times over the last few years both pre and post cruises.

We were making reservations for a couple of more cruises and noticed several types of rates: AAA rates, group rates, standard rates, and a new one to us: "cruise passenger rates". This rate was $24.50 per room more than any other rate.

We have used their free shuttle to and from the airport as well as their free shuttle to and from the pier numerous times.

Heck, it only costs around $10 plus tip to go the pier and about the same to return to the hotel at the end of the cruise. Which is cheaper than what they are charging.

Has anyone been there recently? Where you charged to go to the pier?

I haven't stayed at this hotel but most hotels offer a cruise passenger rate that allows you to park your car at the hotel for the duration of the cruise. It really is a great deal when you consider the pier parking is usually around $15-$20 a day.

FWIW...I just read on the FL Departure board that the Hyatt North will be charging a $6 shuttle fee to the cruise port beginning 4/1/11. It wouldn't surprise that other area hotels will follow suit.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites in December 2010. I paid $7.00 for the shuttle to the pier. I think a cab would have been around $10 to $12.

I've paid as little as $6.50 for a taxi Hyatt Place North to the pier (plus tip of course). Embassy Suites should be cheaper. Keep in mind if it's a busy ship day in port there can be delays getting in and the cabs are on meters, so wait times cost - tic$...tic$...tic$ :)
