Is a trip to the Observatory do-able if we are staying in Isla Verde for a day pre-cruise?

We were thinking of doing this since we had 3 day/2 night precruise stay.
CHECK THE SCHEDULE - they have erratic hours and are not open for tours all the time....... you would not want to get out there (it is a good drive) and have it be closed.
