hi all im new to this and need some help,may we r cruising on carnival 4 the 2nd time(victory)but it will be my first for costa maya do the excursions on shore sell out??can u just walk up??is it safe??please help ty all:cool:

If you don't mind me hijacking this thread just a wee bit...

Average prices for snorkeling? I saw somewhere an excursion where you get to drive the speedboat to the snorkel site and back. Have any more details there?

I'd really like to do the speedboat & snorkel as well as seeing the ruins. Asking too much for a 9 hour day in Mahahual?

I do not know about Costa Maya, but, in general, booking private tours saves you money over ship excursions. You also usually go with smaller groups so you get more personal attention.

However, waiting until you get to a port is not always the best choice. There are lots of private vendors, some better than others so I prefer to pre-reserve with one, often based on CruiseCritic recomendations. In addition, you are less likely to have to wait for them to fill a van or boat if your pre-reserve.
