Anyone got any good ideas for the dance with your Dad? I want something classic, but no butterfly kisses stuff. It would be great to hear some of what everyone else is doing.

Used the Sinatra version of "You Can't Take That Away from Me", which was a little different, but worked for us.

We used There You'll Be by Faith Hill (from the movie Pearl Harbor) for my husband's dance with his mom at our wedding, that would work nicely for a father- daughter dance too.

How about "Butterfly Kisses" sung by Colin Raye? Was at a wedding that had this song for the father/daughter dance and all the ladies at my table were in tears.

What about "The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett. I love that song - it is so sweet for father/daughter!

Not a classic, but a new song by Heartland called "I Loved Her First" is a beautiful father/daughter dance song. Keep the tissue handy!

My son was married in Dec & I am always one to do something different, not the same old same old. We danced to "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts. Very nice words & appropriate, I think. Not a classic, but a change.

My daughter was married in November 2005 and this is the song she chose:
(You'll Always Be) My Little Girl by Steve Kirwan
From the moment I first held you
And rocked you to sleep
In my heart I knew
A child is never yours to keep
I knew one day you’d learn to fly
But I never dreamed what I’d feel inside
CHORUS
As I dance the last dance
With my little girl
And the first with the woman
Who’s found her place in the world
I see the woman in you
But for my whole life through
You’ll always be my little girl
You wrapped me ‘round your finger
Your smile made me melt
I wished so many times
I would’ve told you what I felt
From your first steps
to sweet sixteen
The rush of memories
feels like a dream
CHORUS
I see the woman in you
But for my whole life through
You’ll always be my little girl.
She liked the fact that it was something no one had ever heard before and the music is really beautiful.

I will be getting married June 3, 2007 and we will be using the song "I loved her first" by Heartland. I have listed below the lyrics:
Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

Perfect song, this is the one I found on the internet a few weeks ago! I play it in my car and I tear up every time. I have always dreamed to dance with my dad to the song "Daddy's hands", but its a lil fast and not sure if daddy can 2 step, LOL! Great song!

When we were planning reception detalis, my Dad asked me if we could dance to this song. He said he heard it on the radio and thought of me immediately, as I've had some rough times getting to where I am now in life.
So needless to say, when my "tough as nails Army Dad" showed some emotion, I immediately said yes, we could use this song! I like it too! :)

My Dad & I are very close and we are dancing to I LOVED HER FIRST by Heartland. My coworker listens to country all the time & brought the CD in for me to listen to. I balled my eyes out when I listened to it on my lunch break that day! So, I agree with the others on here that recommended it. I made a copy of the song for my Dad to listen to as well. I wasn't there when he listened to it but my Mom was and she said my Dad got all choked up and his eyes welled up ;) Yep - THAT'S THE SONG! LOL It's a beautiful song and perfect for the father & daughter who have always had that special bond. Good luck!

I have two songs picked out. My Little Girl by Tim McGraw....it was in the movie Flicka. And the other is I loved her first which was listed above. Both just fit so perfectly. It's going to be a tough decision.

"My Girl" by the Temptations.
My wedding's not till Oct. 2007 but that's the song I'm planning on using for the father-daughter dance - anything slower and I'd probably start crying!

I'm not getting married anytime soon but I just had to say that "I Loved Her First" always makes me cry. I started crying just reading the lyrics.
