Has anyone rented a car in Curacao? I was wondering about the price and how easy it is to rent and return the car. We would like to explore a few areas on our own and it seems that this might be the best way to go.
Any information on this would be appreciated.

We were in port in Curacao last week. We made our reservations on line through Avis. Here's the link...

http://www.aviscuracao.com/

We had some questions before making reservations that we e-mailed to them. They were fairly quick with a response. When we made our reservations I did not send a credit card number because their web-site is not secure. They were okay with that.

We were on the Volendam and docked at the Megapier. The Avis building was right there, maybe 200 feet. They were very quick, and we were on our way in just a few minutes.

We rented a Toyota Yaris 4 door sedan, which was more than enough car for the two of us, and took all the extra insurance. The total cost was $68.10 for the day.

Gasoline Stations were around the port, and not hard to find. We used very little, and went all over the island.

We returned the car after the office was closed, they will give you instructions when you leave with the car.

The roads were good, and in Curacao they drive on the right, and are courteous drivers. We always felt safe.

I would recommend Avis in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the great information. We will be in Curacao in November and will probably rent a car through Avis. It's reassuring to know that they are
reliable and we can reserve ahead of time.

Ditto the positive comments on renting from Avis. We are just off the 3/27 sailing of Empress of the Seas. We rented from Avis at the dock (you can see their office from the ship).
We planned to go to a beach "Porto Mari" we found in Fodors. Well- we did arrive there but as we did not ask directions, we did get lost!!
The beach is incredible. You can snorkle right off the beach, they have all facilities including an open air restaurant. Fee is $2.00 and that includes a soft drink.
We had planned to rent a compact at $78.00, but Avis had Toyota Corrola avavilable which we obtained for the same price.
Try to get a good map of the island as many streets do not have street signs and if you know the layout of the roads-it does help.:D
