Well now that the Noordam has been out for several sailings now I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to see the corner aft cabins? Are the balconys still bigger than mid ship? How are the cabin sizes? On the first three Vista class ships the 5th fllor Verrandah Deck had the largest cabin and balcony just wondering if this is still true or are they all the same?

We are considering doing the Noordam to Alaska for next year.

Thanks:)

I admit to being curious also. Didn't we look at the deck plan a while back and discover they had added another cabin on each side?

And just when I was feeling really smug about booking our next cruise (Zuiderdam, Jan 13 '07 in 5186, our friends will be in 5187) ;) I glanced down at your sig. Way to bring me back to earth!

Here's a graphic with the plans of the wake cabins on the Zuiderdam and Noordam:

The interiors are pretty much the same, as is the verandah of the Deck 4 Suites - just smaller verandahs...

Better enjoy those huge corner verandahs on the first 3 Vistas while you can - when they go in for their respective drydocks, they will all be added to just like Noordam

Lisa-

I have tried to magnify a picture taken of the new Noordam. I believe Bepsf said that the thought the largest balconies on the Noordam were on the Upper Promenade.

We were in 7145 aft corner on Noordam. We also had the other aft on Rotterdam (port side, I think it was 7142) The cabin was substantially smaller than the other sa and sb's: I would say almost 100 feet. The big difference was the lack of ability to walk between the bed and sitting area without removing chairs. The balcony was just a little bigger than the others; certainly nothing like they used to be before the refit. The depth was no more than 10 feet with a normal width. The cabin was not as bright as our old cabin 7065. It was very noisy. If I had to do it over, I would not book the aft on Noordam since the refit.

The aft suites balconies are nowhere near as large as the other Vistas - also it seems to take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get to the rear of the deck from the vicintiy of NL, but maybe it was just me.

We really enjoyed our midships SA (7053) - it seemed so close to both stairwells and elevator banks. Also, right down the hall from the NL which made popping in and out for morning coffee quick and easy.

Sailed on Zuiderdam in 5187 last fall and again this coming May on Oosterdam in 5187. Hate to see the re-fit coming down the road. Those aft corners on the first three Vista class ships are really something . . . and so it goes.

Ut oh - we have booked 7145 and 7142 (both corners afts) for our med. cruise. I know the interiors are a bit smaller than the side cabins - We didn't mind that on our Zuiderdam aft.

Can you elaborate on the noise?

Sure hope we are not disappointed!!!!

The noise did not keep us up- surprisingly, but there was quite a bit of grinding, sort of mechanical, motor noises. If you are sensitive to noise I would forget it, but as I said, we were able to sleep. One night, when we seemed to be traveling more quickly, there was more noise. I mention it because I asked about noise before we left and was told it would be quiet up on Rotterdam- not so. The suites near Neptune are so lovely in every way that given the reduction in balcony size for aft on Rotterdam deck it seems not to be worth the walk. BTW, we also had a few additional aft cabins, not corners and the noise was similar.
A benefit however is if you are traveling with kids, you are tucked in a corner with them next to you, so if they make any noise it doesn't bother anyone and you will hear it first.

Laura, as for the Vista Class corner aft ( 5187 ) we actually liked it for the reason we had so far to walk:) I have found the two times we had this cabin and walked a lot more than normal on the ship I actually gained fewer pounds from the cruise:D While I admit on the S and R class ships we prefer to be right across the hall from the Neptune (we will be in cabin 023 in less than 5 weeks on the Ryndam) we have enjoyed the extra exercise while on the Oosterdam. I will be testing this theory in about 34 days:eek:

I guess I really should rephrase my questions. Not all CORNER AFT cabins are the same on the Vista Class ships. From my viewing of Deck 6 and Deck 4, Deck 5 corner cabins are definitely larger in square feet. I know that all the balony square footage has been made smaller but how are the cabins in comparison to the first three Vista Class? Or were they able to make all of the corner aft cabins the same size?

What are/did they do to the balconies and where did the extra square footage from the balconies go?

We toured the Noordam in NY today and checked out all of the aft corner suites on decks 4 through 7 (since deck 8 is directly below the pool deck, we were not particularly interested in those suites). We also looked at the mid-ship SA suites. We are booked in 7142 for a cruise next January and saw no reason to change. Even if the aft balconies are smaller than on the other Vista class ships, they are really very large and are much larger than those in the SA suites. Each of the aft suites is slightly different, but each is very good and we found all of the layouts to be excellent. They compare favorably to the aft suites with huge balconies on Regent Seven Seas' Seven Seas Voyager & Seven Seas Mariner which are our favorite accomodations at sea -- but those ships don't go to the Caribbean in winter from a pier only one mile from our home! We're really looking forward to a 10 minute trip from our house to our vacation.

On the Noordam, they added additional cabins at the rear of the ship (Rotterdam deck 7) during the refit and that's where the space went.

Thanks for the information:) On the first three Vista Class ships the inside sq footage was noticable. The 5th floor Verrandah Deck has the largest of the corner cabins in sq footage. Where deck 6 was definitely smaller. Did you see this difference or did they seem the same? I agree that although the cabin is slightly smaller we really enjoyed the balcony and the view was great. That is why we are considering the Noordam for Alaska in 2007 but was wondering if one of the floors was slightly better like on the other three.

We actually preferred the deck 7 corner suites largely because of their location. The corner balconies all seemed to be quite wondeful except for those on deck 4 which have some sort of small equipment attached to the outside of their side railings. The variation in size from deck to deck of both the suite interiors and of the balconies seemed to be minimal. I had planned to measure the depths of the balconies, but there was a freak April snowstorm with very strong wind gusts that lasted for the entire time that we were checking out the suites. All we could do was step out on to the balconies and take a quick look around. By the time the storm was over, the stewards had finished making up the cabins and most of the doors were locked.
