Our next cruise will leave out of Ft. Lauderdale. We are going to fly in two days early. Looking into booking a room at the Comfort Inn Airport/Cruise Port South (Hollywood). Is this a decent property?
Would you stay there with your family of four? Is it in a safe area?
Thank you so very much for your thoughts!

I have stayed here in the past and enjoyed it, but its been a few years. Lately I haven't heard very good reports on this hotel. You may want to try another one. The Amerisuites in downtown Ft. Lauderdale has a good deal on www.valuetrips.com if you book it on this web site.
Check on the hotel boards here, there are some great tips over there as well.

We too have stayed there in the past (last time was Dec 2003). It is (or was ) OK, not the Ritz but for that price what do you want? It did have a very nice breakfast - not just old, stale donuts and crappy fruit. As for safety - I would say it was safe. Remember - any hotel in Florida is a keep your doors locked and be careful kind of place. It is close to a sprawly mall type place that has several restaurants (we always went to the Alehouse, but I know there are others there) but you would have to drive there. (Beware of Florida drivers - pedestrians are fair game:( ) It is only 5 minutes by car to the port or the airport.

There is a Hotels board on Cruise Critic. Check there for pretty up-to-date info.

Last year we stayed there and were not impressed, definitely would not stay there again. The property itself appears safe but I did not like the musty-smelling room (and I am not that picky). The main aggravation was checking in and out. For the volume of people checking in/out, the lobby and front desk is not nearly large enough and they do not have enough Front Desk people - it was a zoo.
The year before we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Plantation and quite liked it - breakfast, airport shuttle and cruiseport shuttle are all complimentary (we tried to book there last time but they had no vacancy).

just returned from cruise, and we stayed at the Comfort Inn. This was our second year there. Last year was good. This year was a complete 180. Their continental breakfast consisted of the small hostess doughnuts, pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash. Some fruit, cereal, and lots of bread for toast. Only the food hadnt thawed out! The rooms are ok. If your there for a short period of time, I think you can make the best of it. The Hampton Inn is right next door so if your skeptical, you can inquire about them. My suggestions for eats; there is a shopping mall behind the hotels, walk along the mall for a short distance and you will eventually come to the moonlight Diner. You will love the atmosphere, and the food. We had dinner and breakfast there and it is worth the walk!
