View Full Version : Extra Lounger? Unreasonable request?

There are 3 of us sharing Aft Corner Suite 5187 on an upcoming Oosterdam Alaska cruise in May and having sailed in that suite before I know it comes with dining table, 4 chairs, 2 loungers, small cocktail-size table and two other more comfortable chairs and could easily hold a third lounger.
This is certainly not a big deal at all, but thought I'd ask you all here about this. Would I be out of place if I asked our steward if he/she could get us a third lounger? I would give them something, of course, on the spot for accommodating us (if this is even possible).
I guess it can't hurt to ask. All they can say is "no," but has anyone else requested this before who can shed some light.
Thanks!

If you don't ask---you don't get.
Can't speak from experience, but I do know that HAL will make every effort to meet a reasonable request. This sure sounds like a reasonable request.
The question is where is the extra lounger going to come from? Surely, those on other verandas are being used; the steward probably doesn't have one in his linen closet.
Maybe one can be brought from the Promenade Deck?
Sounds like a plan.

I don't know about the Oosterdam, but I requested A lounger for our balcony on Prinsendam. When we returned to the cabin there were TWO loungers on the balcony, which was a little small for that much furniture. A couple that boarded for the second segment requested one, but our steward told them there were no more available. I had him take our extra one to them. Apparently quantities may be limited, so request as soon as possible.

Perhaps I should call ships services now or maybe this is something they don't get into and I should just request from the steward once on board or perhaps the Neptune Lounge right after boarding? Thoughts?

I hope you hear from someone more knowledgeable, but as a guess, I would say to wait and ask your steward when you first board. We were able to get a reclining chair once - on another line - just by asking. I think your request is reasonable - if he can't get it, you might become a "chair hog" and take one from the pool ( I can't believe I said that!) Nancy

Nancy! Nancy! Nancy! For shame. Only teasing. No, I can't quite imagine dragging a lounge chair into an elevator or down the stairs. That's not going to happen, but, you know, I have read of people on these boards who have done that.

We managed to get two for my parents suite on the Amsterdam. Spent many a chilly hour out there asleep, very well wrapped up when cruising Rio to Santigo. My Mother just asked the concierge in the Neptune lounge, it appeared to be no problem whatsoever. Have a good trip!

You said an aft cabin, right? No need to drag a lounger thru the elevator - if your aim is good, just toss it over the stern rail!

You mentioned asking at the Neptune for the additional lounger and that's what I suggest. We were on the Westerdam 3/26-4/2/06 cruise and as soon as we boarded I asked the concierge at the Neptune if she could arrange to have one of the loungers delivered for my husband - she replied "That's no problem" and within 30 minutes voila! - lounger on the balcony.
I agree with the previous poster - if you don't ask you don't get!

By all means, ask! Nothing wrong with that request! Good luck to you:) and don't forget four bungee cords to tie them down;)
