Dinner times and shows?

How does HAL work in terms of timing of dinners and shows? For example, we like to book the latest time for dining (8:30 for the next cruise) because we enjoy cocktails in the cabin while getting ready for hours. Will there be a show at 11 PM for the late diners or is the show prior to dinner? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Not at 11 I don't think.

They are doing two shows and some folks have complained that folks at the late seating are not finished in time for when the shows begin and they have trouble finding good seats.
I wonder if it is possible for folks with 8:30 dinner to go to early dinner's show and be out of it in time for their dinner.


But......if you wish to enjoy cocktails in your cabin for "HOURS" while getting ready, I guess an early show would not be appealing for you.

Was on the Maasdam 2 weeks ago. We had the 8pm seating and were out by 9:30 in plenty of time for the 10:15 show. You will be out by 10pm for the 10:15 show. The only complaint I heard was that the seats up front were taken by the people who had the 8pm seating like we did. We usually arrived at the showroom by 10pm. You could not do the early show and make dinner. If I remember correctly the early show was at 8:15.

We experienced the new dining times on the Maasdam just 3 weeks ago.

First dinner time - upper level - 5:45 - no problem for the 8:30 show.

Lower level dinner time - 6:15 - very, very few people had problems making the 8:30 show.

Upper level dinner time - 8:00 - no problem for the 10:30 show.

Lower level dinner time - 8:30 - many people complained because the service was slow and they didn't get out of the restaurant in time for the 10:30 show.

Remember there are more people to serve on the lower level of the dining rooms. Therefore it takes longer to get eveyone served. And it is that way on all the ships.

We have always had late seating (which, until recently, was 8:15) and there were some occassions when they had the show BEFORE late seating dinner.


I think all the ships are doing as you described barbon and it does sound like the best they can do in order to juggle four seating times with two shows.
