How does this work all you experienced HAL sailors?

My mom's cousin and her husband just had to do this on our Rotterdam cruise this past March. No problem whatsoever.

You turn up with whatever reference number you have, copy emails from TA etc. and they write you out a piece of paper to present at check in. 5 minutes maximum. It also helps if you have printed out the online immigration form but this is the case regardless of whether you have tickets or not.

There will be a separate line for those who need to pick up their documents at the pier.
When we were on the Oosterdam, Feb 29th, there were at least 100 people picking up their documents.

I still believe it is just a matter of time until we don't have documents at all. Everything is in the computer anyway. We'll just show up with our booking number, confirmation and ID and that's it. The airlines have been very successful with their e-tickets, and there's really no reason why cruise lines couldn't do that, too. Wouldn't it be neat to have a kiosk to check in? Slide your credit card in and the machine will output your cruise card. Show it and your passport/ID at the gangway, and you're in!

I agree Jim, but unfortately HAL's process is a little behind the times embarkation always seems to be mass confusion the 2 times I have sailed. Yet with RCL it was a breeze. In December we did a quickie 3 day cruise. I booked it 7 days before we left and that was with Christmas in between. All we had was a fax confirmation letter. We got there at Noon and was on the ship in 20 minutes.
I would guess that with HAL to soon have 4 Vista Class ships with a larger number of passengers they will implement a way to speed it up and go paper less.

jayjo-yes, do not worry, but you should have with you a copy of the booking paperwork from your TA, if you used one and your copy of the immigration form.
Last December, that is all we had with us for a HAL cruise, and we had no problem whatsoever being processed at the check-in counter. The folks who take your baggage, have extra tags to put on your luggage-all you will need to know is your cabin number.
Have a great cruise!
