I recently posted about a notification sent to my husband and me from HAL about my husband's guide dog for the blind, Hero. The letter told us that the box and material we requested for Hero's relief area would be charged to our shipboard account. We have previously sailed on Princess and Celebrity with Hero and there was no charge.
I said I would post the outcome of our communications with HAL. Hero will be provided a box with his choice of sand or sod, at no charge. As a number of you said, I think it was a matter of finding the right person who had worked with service animals before.
We continue to look forward to our Maasdam cruise in July, our first time on HAL.

http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifI am very glad to hear that HAL has been responsive to your needs as far as your guide dog is concerned. I have always found HAL to be very responsive to my needs as a disabled person and trusted that they would continue to be so. It is very comforting to have that trust reinforced.
i hope you, your husband and Hero have a wonderful cruise.
Linda
Thanks for listening

I am so glad . I remember reading taht post a couple weeks back and had hoped something would work out.
I had a feeling HAL would come through.
You must have just had the misfortune or dealing with a rotten egg the first time.
Have a great time
Don't forget to pack Hero's bathing suit and sunglasses *LOL*

Clopaw-
I am glad you finally talked to someone that could work this out without any additional cost to you! Restores my faith a little bit. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
I have no doubt that Hero will be better behaved than the average Carnival passenger!!! (It's a joke http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif)

Thanks for all of the good wishes.
Vicar, Hero actually has sunglasses--they're called Doggles. He wears the discrete black frame with smoky lenses, but they come in a variety of colors including fluorescents. He's a very dapper fellow!

I hope I do this correctly.

We bought them for the bright Caribbean sunshine, but as they say on the site, they can be useful in many situations, not to mention fashionable.

I am so happy to hear your good news. As a nurse with a mother w/limited mobility and my best friend w/CP and wheelchair bound, it is great to see that HAL is catering to those that are physically challenged. I just wished that I could be on your cruise and met HERO! Have a wonderful time, clear skies, and calm seas!
