Does anyone have a preference for lower or upper level dining? First time on a HAL ship and wonder what the advantages and disadvantages might be of the room itself. Thanks for any advice!

Personally, I prefer lower dining room only because the windows look out directly to the wake instead of to the Promenade Deck - whereas on the S and R Class ships, all window tables have a direct view.
If you request a table for two, there are 4 more of them on Noordam in what is used as space for the musicians on the other Vistas...
Other than that, there really are no differences on the Vistas other than dining times...

We were seated in the new dining space set up in the original musician's space. We really felt special and like the area a lot although there was no view. Our table number was 316 and we ate in the 8:00 p.m. time slot which worked best for us. :)

Regardless of which ship I am on I have always eaten lower level ... I can't say why. This coming October on the Zaandam will be my first time to be upper level. :) Cool.
On the Noordam I liked being aft in every respect EXCEPT for the problems with AC that they were having. Everyone ... and I mean EVERYONE ... in our area by the windows complained about the oppressive heat due to lack of adequate ventilation in the immediate area. I understand that this problem been repaired (from what I'm told, some vent controls were not opened and had to be manually repositioned when the ship was in port at NYC ... why it couldn't be fixed while at sea I was not to told). Apart from this, I loved the spot ... particularly when the ship was making a fair imitation of a roller coaster ride on the last sea-night on our way back to New York!
Yippie! Clink them glasses and make her roll some more!!!! :D (Sorry Joyce!)

My preference is based on time as opposed to level. I like main sitting, and prefer the 8:00 over the 8:30. That makes it upper level for me.

John & I also sat at the lower level aft tables. The view over the wake is lovely. Also, we liked the 8:30pm time - it's nice to be able to get ready for dinner & then meet friends for a drink before dinner.
Agree with Greg - it was really HOT some evenings back there. Glad to hear it's been repaired, although John DID offer. He had his leatherman tool with him onboard! :)
