View Full Version : A Prinsendam 10-day Anyone?

Knowing how savvy all the HAL CC'ers are:D , you probably already know about this "little" 10-day Prinsendam Southern Caribbean gem sandwiched in between all her longer cruises I can't afford;) . It's a wonderful itinerary going to Grand Turk, San Juan, Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Barts, St. Thomas, HMC with 2 wonderful days at sea!

It's on 12/2/06 to 12/12/06 and I thought I'd mention it since a couple people have emailed me or visited our Roll Call and seemed quite surprised a shorter cruise on the Prinsendam even existed!

If you've never enjoyed a ship with less than 800 passengers and always wanted to get the "feel" of a smaller ship ... or even if you have and you loved it! ... think about this cruise. I think it's going to be a wonderful experience.

The Prinsendam was once the Royal Viking Sun and since I have a particular affinity for Royal Viking (having cruised on the "Sea" on our honeymoon in the Mediterranean 21 years ago), this is a particularly exciting trip for us.

I understand she's being sold and leaving the HAL fleet in another year or 2 plus ... so jump at this chance!

<HEAVY SIGH>

December 12.
10 days
Ending December 22nd.

Smack DAB in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Advent, getting ready for Christmas.

WHY can't the schedule something like this for January, or some other time for when I CAN get away??

Greg--

I thought you were trying to get me to go on the Prinsendam Transatlantic?

Heather --

You should organize a group cruise!
(so long as it doesn't take away from my Noordam "Post-Holiday Blues Cruise" - for which I'm waiting for details from LauraS!!!)
:D

Greg, no!!! It's on December 2nd until the 12th!!!

Brian, are you trying to be funny????:D I think so! We all know how well I did with a group cruise. Not going to happen in my lifetime!!!! But thanks for the giggle.

No, I'm just casually throwing it out there because it's such an amazing event ... the only 10-day Prinsendam in the entire year! I think it's just to fill that small period before going into dry dock.

So it's not in the way of anyone else's cruise! Not to worry.

"There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes":) Doctor Who

OMG. A Doctor Who fan.

Do you like the new Doctor on the shows Sci Fi is running ?

OT Sorry folks, I couldn't resist.

I have to confess, Gizmo, I just love the quote. I never watched those shows:o ... I'm so embarrassed.

So you wanna come on the cruise? We might even be friends! Could happen:D !

And I thought I found a Doctor Who fan. :)

I looked at that cruise a couple of months ago. The itinerary is great, the timing is right, but the cruise is pricy. I know it is the Prisendam and a smaller ship, but there are other 10 days cruises priced much better.
Thanks for the invite. :)

I agree with Gizmo. The cruise sounds nice but it is too pricey. I am a little afraid to pay extra and then be disappointed with the ship. I know I like the Volendam and Amsterdam, etc. I'm not so sure about the Prinsendam.

I'm sorry to disappoint, Gizmo! Just lifted the quote:) .

I am very confused when I look at pricing now because I got Cabin 197 (A category) at the beginning of March for $3000 for the 2 of us which I thought was amazing. Evidently a fluke because there's nothing like that there now!!! The "A" category is gone and the "BC" is almost as much as the SS!

But I did see you can get an SS for about $4800 (including port, taxes and fees) for 2 which isn't bad at all for 10 days. I've always found that the 10-day itineraries are priced much higher than the 7. Never understood that.

Not bad pricing, really. 160/day (with single supp) for an outside (E cat).

i'm almost certain i'm doing the 30 day on Veendam (LA to Tampa) in september but this would be a good fallback. i really want to sail on prinsendam before they sell it.

thanks, heather

That pricing isn't too bad. Thanks again, but I already have a deposit on a cruise around the same time frame. I got a terrific deal on an S for a 10 day cruise plus I am meeting up with 2 other couples. Mr. Gizmo would not give that kind of pricing up for an SS. I really like the itinerary of the Prisendam since it goes to a couple of islands I have not been to, but I guess I will have to wait.

Remind me to tell you the story of when a friend dragged me to a Dr. Who convention here in Philly about 20 years ago. I'll write it up one day when I have time to type a bit more.

LOL ... not only did I end up at a convention for someone I knew zero about, but I went on only three hours sleep.

Bad experience. :)

LOL. I wonder if that convention was one that I missed in Philly ? The time frame is close. I was suppose to go, but had to drive to DC for a work related issue. I finally got to attend one here in Atlanta.

It must have been funny especially on 3 hours sleep seeing Daleks, K-9, Cybermen and an assortment of other creatures.

I would like to cruise with you one day but this one doesn't fit into our vacation schedule.

Thanks again for all the wonderful info and photos about cabin 6135. :)

Brian ... I am still thinking about that cruise.
I just received word regarding a factor that might impact my ability to take that cruise ... but, we'll see. :) I might just toss all caution to the wind a book it anyway. :)

But we're not talking about the transatlantic right now. We're talking about a far more reasonable, logistically perfect round-trip 10-day Southern for those of us who don't particularly want to get on a plane and fly across the Atlantic:) .

The cabins are being scooped up as we speak ... so get a move on and book it!

Gizmo, lucky you getting a good price on an "S"! Maybe someday:D . Besides wanting to cruise on a smaller ship, the itinerary is what got me. I've never been to St. Barts, Nevis or Grand Turk! So this will be fun and new. In fact, for me it will be like 4 days at sea ... I won't get off in San Juan (been there done that) and the most I'll do on HMC is go for a swim.

There was this special contest type thingy during the convention ... where people dressed as their favorite characters or brought a prop to simulate their favorites. There was this woman there who had this thing under her arm. It looked like a vacuum cleaner cannister. I turned around to my friend ... a dihard Dr. Who fan (can't remember the particular Dr. Who she liked and who was at the convention ... but it was one particular one) and I said ... "what the hell is that thing?" Apparently, it was some automon character in the show. Next thing I know I have about 100 people all pointing at me and chanting "unbeliever." I still have nightmares about that to this day.

This cruise must be almost sold out because weird things keep happening to the remaining cabins. One day there were at least six S suites available and the next day they were gone. Then at least six SS suites were available and then they were gone. And then the S's came back and then the SS's. The only thing I can figure is that maybe the computer takes cabins out when a certain number of reservations are made even if there are still cabins available. Then maybe they are put back in again? Does anybody know?

The Prinsendam has a 10 day Transatlantic next May which seems to be reasonably priced. The Fort Lauderdale to Lisbon portion of the trip actually. You can opt for a longer voyage as the ship continues on down the Mediterranean. Even though I shouldn't be thinking of a 2007 cruise (due to other reasons outside of cruising) I just found this out a few days ago. The price is good and I always wanted to do a Transatlantic.

Sorry Heather but I'll be actually on another cruise on December 2.Yet another reason I shouldn't rush into paying off another cruise just five months later. Ohhhh, this is an addictive hobby we have for sure.
