Would any past guests let me know what to expect in verandah suites-categories (SS-SZ)? Do we have a fridge, blow-dryer, ect.? Do we have any early boarding for suite pax? Also do we have access to the Neptune Lounge or is that only for upper levels? Any help would be appreciated. Need advice for upcoming Alaska trip.

Thanks. Missygirl:)

All cabins on all ships have a hair dryer. You didn't say which ship you're sailing; all cabins on all Vista's have a fridge. The veranda cabins on the S- and R-class ships have a fridge; other cabin categories can rent one.
Not sure what the "etc." is that you're referring to.

I believe you're referring to a cabin category that has a lovely veranda, but does not have the suite amenities such as early boarding, Neptune Lounge, priority tendering. I'm certain others will post to confirm this.

I agree with Ruthc here, you didn't mention the ship, but I will assume its one of the Vista Style ships. If so, the SS categories do not get any of the suite perks. No access to the neptune lounge, no early boarding, no free laundry, nothing. Sorry, but better to know now than after you board and find out that you don't get any of the perks you thought you may. If you wanted those perks, you will want to book the Deluxe Verandah suites, not the Superior. Hope this helps.

SS - SZ are the Vista class ships categories - they are listed as Superior Verandah Suites and do not have the same perks as the Deluc Verandah Suites ( SA - Sb - SC) and the Penthouse Verandah Suites (PS), You will not have use of the Neptune Lounge - no suite cocktail party - no private suite buffet in the Crow's Nest on the last sea day.

You will not have priority embarkation or disembarkation and you will not have tender priority.

To continue with Krazy Kruiser, nor hors d'uevers (I think that is how you spell it), nor the wonderful balcony (try for the aft corner as it was amazing).

Well worth the extra money!

Sorry, I didn't say earlier that I will be on Oosterdam-May 20. This will be our first balcony and we are ready NOW! My hubby thinks I'm nuts and a lady at work has already laughed at me but I have started packing already. We will be going to Alaska and we were told to get a balcony.

The ect. in my earlier thread was if anyone knew of anything in the room special that we will receive. Do we have loungers or chairs on the balcony and is it see through wall or a solid wall of steel? I would really love to go out there in my pj's and blanket and be able to see through it.
Anyway thanks for imput.

If you have a SZ or above guarantee I think you will be on the Veranda or above decks which look like you will have a balcony that you can see out (no steel sheet). We are booked the same catagory on the Westerdam in June and that was what they told me. We will be satisfied with SZ but HA said that there are only 2 cabins of this cat so we will probably be upgraded. Just waiting to see what we get.

Nana, We are also booked on SZ but supposed to get a 2-cat upgrade with our booking. Our TA told us the same about 2 cabins in SZ and I also think that she said their only a couple SY so you may even move up to a SS. Good Luck with your room.

On the Westerdam there are only two SZ cabins 6117 starboard aft and 6052 port forward. These are the cabins which are situated on the bump out if look look at the side profile of the ship. These are said to be better if you are three in a cabin rather than two. The odd configuration affords more privacy I've herd. Never had one so cannot attest.

Missygirl,
We were in the catergory of which you speak on the Noordam a few weeks ago.
Some of the ammenities that you WILL receive are:

-A wonderful view from your balcony.

-Your balcony will have two padded chairs with ottomans and a cafe table w/ 2 chairs.

-Robes (that can be worn on your balcony):p

-Extra blankets to curl up in while you enjoy your view from your balcony

-A Deck lounger delivered to your balcony if you call your concierge and request to have one delivered.
Be very sweet when asking and make sure that you tip.

-Dinner from the main dining room delivered to your balcony for a romantic dinner for two.
(if you order during the first 30 minutes of dining during the first seating for dinner and request the time that you would like to have it delivered.)

Your stateroom ammenities will also include:
-Personalized stationary
-Phone concierge
-Ice bucket and glasses (wine, goblets, etc.)
-Basket of fruit (replenished each day)
-A bud vase with a few stems of flowers
-A mini fridge (stocked)-If you would like to use it for your own items,
(ie. yogurt, milk, cold drinks, a dessert, or other goodies), call and have the contents of the fridge removed and replaced later.

-A hairdryer
-Elemis bath products-shower cap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel, facial soap and bath soap.

-A flat screen TV with DVD player
-Complimentary DVD movies checked out at Explorations Cafe'
-Whirlpool tub with separate shower
-Double sink vanity
-Plenty of drawer, closet, and shelf space
-Nightly turn down service w/ pillow chocolates

and my favorite :)
Breakfast in bed each morning if you fill out the breakfast menu card and hang it outside your cabin door by 2 am. If you desire a specific item (i.e. oatmeal w/ brown sugar & raisins), write it in and perhaps they will surprise you! They did every time for us. Room service was always our wake-up call...They would knock, we would put on our robes, and in they would come and place our breakfast in bed with us!
(make sure to keep $$$ in your robe pocket to tip with...)

So wrap up in your fluffy robe, order room service, curl up in your deck chair on your balcony and enjoy every single moment of your cruise!

We booked an SZ guarantee and the week before we left, we learned that we had been assigned to 6108. (A handicap accessible with the angled balcony.) Upon embarkation, we were told that we were in an SY suite on Deck 8-A lovely suite in a perfect location.

With a guarantee, the important thing to remember is that you're not guaranteed anything
until your key card opens the door!:)

Mums, what a great review I'm ready to leave now, but have to wait just a little longer. My Alaska trip doesn't start until May 20.

Do they keep all of the bath products replenished as you use them or do I need to bring my own to use? I have read the brand that they have switched to is really good so if I don't have to bring any shampoo/conditioner, or lotion I will have a little more room in my carry-on for something else.
Missygirl:)
Thanks all

Missygirl-
Yes, they will replenish the products as necessary.

Check a thread a few pages back by bespf -Elemis vs. Royal Dutch to find out others opinions on the quality of the products. I found all the products to be nice with the exception of the lotion. It was quite thin and not really moisturizing enough on skin that was sunburned and had been exposed to salt water. Of course, you said you were going to Alaska, so that's probably a mute point.

You will be shocked at the size of our your stateroom, especially since you said that this will be your first time with a balcony. :)

You've skipped a whole category of cabins, Girl, and you're gonna feel very spoiled!

Missy--

Your TV will still be one of the monster boxes - as Oosterdam still has the originals and won't get the new LG TV's till her drydock this fall.

Someonw else mentioned that you won't have the balcony that SA's have - the SS/SY balconies are 3/4 the size and are just as nice.

I prefer the SS's to the other categories, except for the corner SB's (and Alaska/Panama Canal are the perfect itineraries for a corner suite) I think you're gonna love it!

hate to break it to u BUT, according to HALs own website, neither the Zuiderdam, Westerdam nor Oosterdam will be receiving LCD TVs while in drydock at least not for another yr or more. The TVs are too new to replace yet. That said, while 'monsters' as u stated, the TVs are well out of the way and provide adequate viewing anyway. The superior class suites all have DVD players - can't speak for the other cabin categories.

Happy cruisin'!

You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your balcony. I, too, was excited for months beforehand and the Oosterdam was all I'd anticipated for the entire 23 days and nights.
We had fruit and coffee each morning out on our balcony.........and each night I'd go out there just to watch the moon on the water and the white foam created by the ship. It was all clear............we could see the sea while sitting.
We were up pretty high..............70__ __.............near the elevators and everything else.
Only after sailing on the Veendam did I understand why people on the Vista Class ships complain of having "no drawers." I thought we had plenty of drawer space because of the nightstands but once we went on the Veendam and enjoyed all the big drawers, I understood the complaints.
They replace all of the soaps, shampoos, etc. and if you've been on another line, you will REALLY appreciate the large bathrooms on the O.
HAVE A GRAND TIME!!:)

Hello Moogy,
I saw on the roll call that you will be on our trip, maybe we will be neighbors. We have a SZ but with a possible 2-cat upgrade-we will have to see where they put us.
Our roll call is pretty slim maybe more will sign in before we sail.

ALASKA BOUND!!!
