It's like comparing the Four Seasons Hotel and Hilton Hotel. Hilton's fine, but ....

We are going to try Silversea for the first time next week, but we have been on Celebrity several times. We expect that the Silversea standard cabins are much bigger and better. Silversea has 380 passengers to Celebrity's 1800. Silversea has free seating for meals and is all inclusive, not to mention presumably better service. However, normally (of course either line has its own special discount voyages etc.), Silversea is more than double Celebrity's per diem cost. So, for similar destinations, we expect it will be like spending the same amount of money staying in say Ritz Carlton for one week, versus in a local four-star close by for half a month. I guess different folks will choose differently, and many people will try both for the experience on different occasions. Am I right? After we come back later this month, then we'll post our opinion!

"Presumbably" better service??? Wait and see.

By chance I looked at the Disney cruises site, and found that for several similar itineraries, Disney is more expensive than Silversea. Pardon my ignorance, can someone tell me why?!

When onboard Silversea, I spoke to a grandparently-aged couple who said that when they cruise alone - they choose Silversea, but when they take their extended family every year which includes grandchildren - they take Disney. I haven't been on a Disney cruise, but my guess as to why they are fabulous is the legendary Disney attention to detail. If you've ever been to Disneyworld or Epcot or MGM and seen the parades, the employee to visitor ratio, the characters everywhere, the attention to food and theme restaurants... it must be an "experience." As to high cost... labor = salary = higher fares for the passengers. Even Snow White who strolls the decks must be paid.

Because it is Disney and they feel that they can get it, plus they probably have kids.

Newtocc, please come sail in Princess, I didn't realize how much I missed you. My last cruise was Celebrity and next is Princess so I'm concentrating on that board and it needs a diversion. Take care
