I know we all want to bash Infopop but how does it compare with other board's software. I only know Infopop. So I have nothing to compare it with.

USS Chilton APA-38 1966-1968
USS Guam LPH-9 1968-1970
Pacific Princess Oct 21 2001 Bermuda
Golden Princess Dec 7 2002 "Eastern Caribbean"

I hang on a Red Sox board hosted by EZ-board. It goes down every now and then (twice in the past 8-9 months), but I've never seen the threads mixed up, or notifications lost.

Let me assure you we are doing everything possible work on a solultion to our problems with our vendor. We don't exactly know what is happening, but we're pretty sure it is related to the sheer numbers of both postings and members visiting!

We're looking at all possible solutions including upgrades etc to get things back on track.

Please bear with us and thanks for your patience,

Laura

I know you guys are doing all you can, Laura.

Some suggestions:

1) Posters born on odd numbered days can only post on even numbered days

2) NO CAPITAL LETTERS, they take up more pixels than lowercase do

Or these, assuming the problem is volume of posts:

1) No images and/or countdown clocks and/or sig files
2) Delete old roll call threads after the trip is x number of days past (90? 360?)
3) delete old threads that haven't been replied to in x years (1? 2?)

We've successfully "passed the hat" to get a faster server and more storage space at my Red Sox board on EZ Board, I'm not sure if that's something you would try here, but I bet you'd raise a ton of money in a hurry if it meant better performance.

Thanks for your hard work!

I think that Nitemare's suggestions 1-3 for the volume problems are good ones. I would also wonder what capacity the software vendor promised you?

Anyway, it seems the boards have been pretty reliable up until the upgrade maintenance a few weeks ago. Sometimes an upgrade makes things worse instead of better...

But as was posted on another thread, I think if there are server/software problems, a general post out to the population would be helpful. We'd be more informed and less frustrated trying to find posts (or assuming they've been deleted).

You haven't begun to see what kinds of signature artwork that is out there on some forums, such as EZ-boards, mentioned above, and they run with huge numbers of messages and participants and don't have the problems that these boards have. If you don't believe me, take a look at this example:
http://pub141.ezboard.com/feverquestpeoplefrm13.showMessage?topicID=5986.top ic

The mostly text based signatures we have on these boards shouldn't cause problems AND it certainly shouldn't cause messages to scramble and disappear.

It seems to be getting worse, not better. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
