So, can I get a real ceasar salad on the Westerdam...somehow?

I don't know if it was real or not, but I had one on Zui last year. Tasted fine. Got it with salmon. Are the "real" ones the ones that have raw egg? If so, I don't think they do that, but maybe someone could correct me...

I'm thinking that he's looking for raw egg AND anchovies.

YUMMY!:)

(Sadly, I haven't seen a REAL Ceasar Salad for years!)

If you mean tossed tableside with raw egg etc, no.....

But, if you mean a very tasty caesar like salad, yes. It is as good as I have had in a setting where 900+ guests are being fed at approximately the same time. (30 minutes apart----and not that long after 900 others have already been fed ahead of you.) You will have fresh grated parmesan, crisp romaine and casear dressing. I do not think you will have whole anchiove on your plate unless perhaps if you request it, maybe???

Now this is something I would enjoy in Pinnacle: a Real Caesar Salad (with anchovies, please) made tableside!
:)

Beats some woman dressed as a head of Romaine getting tossed in the Vista...

Well a real ceasar salad can be had in the specialty restaurant on Celebrity. They make it tableside, tell you the ingredients, and ask if you want anchovies.

And just slightly less campy than the dancing vegetables!

Brian: shake a little extra salt on those leaves and you'll never know the difference....

We have had some real good ceasar salads on some ships and some just average.

Would love to have it in the Pinnacle made tableside.

There are no anchovies on a real Caesar Salad -
http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/caesar.htm

The link you provided lists this as an ingredient:

1 1/2 teaspoons anchovy paste or 4 flat anchovies

It also speaks of using a coddled egg instead of a raw egg for a creamier dressing.

As a child it was my job to make a REAL caesar salad every Sunday evening for Steak night. I was taught to use both achovies and a coddled egg by my mother.

WHEN I used to make casesar salads for guests in my home, that is how I made it. Unfortunatley, I gave up on coddled eggs......don't want the risk. (some people have tried egg substitutes and I wonder how well they work??)

In our area all of the large grocery stores now offer pastuerized eggs for those who wish. I presume they would be a safe alternative in the salad. I do not care for the pastuerized eggs as eggs as they are not really liquid, they are somewhat gel-like in consistency, and therefore do not cook up when used in an omelette as I prefer. When we have done sail boat charters in the Virgin Islalnds the cooks usually purchase and use the pastuerized eggs because they do not have to be refrigerated as well -- but I can always tell when they are used.

I like this thread...:)!

IF the Pinnacale Grill could make me one tableside, I would HAVE to go.

Celebrity uses pasteurized eggs.

Too bad raw eggs are so dangerous to eat these days. There are some lovely dishes made with raw eggs.

The last time I had a real Caesar salad in a restaurant in Europe -- the waiter did use anchovies. He rub the bowl with them, then tossed them out. The idea is to have a hint of the anchovy taste but for them not to actually be present.

I do believe he used coddled eggs, safer than using raw ones.

I've heard of rubbing the bowl with garlic and discarding them, but never tossing the anchovies as they become part of the dressing in many recipes. From my experience if you rubbed the bowl w/ the anchovies there wouldn't be much left of them.

Personally I would rather the anchovies be broken up a bit and added to the lettuce leaves. Maybe that because I'm a member of the other AA - Anchovies Anonymous :D

At least once on every HAL cruise that I have taken recently, the dining room serves weiner schnitzel for lunch on at least one day. The weiner schnitzel usually comes dressed with a couple of anchovies on top. Yummy!

I ordered the Caesar Salad on the Westerdam in January. It wasn't made tableside. It was fine - I could taste the Anchovy paste (barely, which is how I like it) and it had fresh parmesan curls on top. The Romaine was fresh, too, and it was day three or four of the cruise.
