We're going to Alaska on NCL Sun in the end of July. We're 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 9 and 12). We'll arrive in Seattle on Friday around noon and cruise on Saturday. We'd like to stay in an area that's interesting and safe for exploring. Any suggestions?
Also, any outdoorsy activities recommended in Seattle (i.e. kayaking) for the day?

The Marriott Courtyard at Lake Union sounds good for you http://www.courtyardlakeunion.com/ The Center for Wooden Boats is practically across the street - http://www.cwb.org/

The Marriott offers free shuttles to downtown, making it easy for you to do the Underground Tour, visit the Waterfront, Pike Place Market (has a great magic shop in addition to the 'flying fish' market), go to the Pacific Science Center, Space Needle, EMP. We also have a great zoo - Woodland Park Zoo http://www.zoo.org/.

Enjoy.

Can you provide information of food tours. We arrive Thursday; cruising on Saturday. I'd like to do a food tour, duck tour, space needle and ferry to Bainbridge. I've researched the food tours but am looking for info from someone who has actually done one.

the waterfront Mariott may be nice for you. Its in a nice area, very convinient to many of the local attractions and is a nice hotel with good rooms. Half of our family stayed there before our Alaska cruise in September and it was quite nice

The Pike Place Market food tours are the best. A long time to be on your feet, so be up to it, but well worth the time and the cost.

Just booked this hotel thru priceline for $75 in July. It is close to Pike's Place which is a hub of action.

Norwegian Star leaves on Saturdays, but Star Princess leaves on Sunday. And NCL Sun leaves from Vancouver BC on Sundays. Hopefully the OP knows they are either leaving from YVR, or put down the wrong ship name and are really sailing on Norwegian Star.

That's a good choice. It's a relatively quiet area on the weekends yet close enough to many downtown attractions that walking is an option. Just be ready for a lot of uphill/downhill walking! We stayed fairly close to the Red Lion last May (Hotel Vintage Park) and loved it. Some good friends have stayed at the Red Lion and liked it well enough to book there again for an upcoming cruise. Enjoy!
