View Full Version : Does HAL offer a "coffee card" like the soda card?

I read on another board about someone buying a "coffee card" for her premium coffee drinks at the ship's java bar. Just wondering if anyone knows whether HAL has a similar offering? I don't really drink soda, but I do really love great coffee drinks. Usually on a cruise we end up spending quite a bit on those, and think it would be a great idea if we could get a card deal on that!
anyone?????

I don't remember seeing a "coffee" card mentioned or listed on the items available for purchase onboard like the soda cards....but if they don't have them, that sounds like a heck of a good idea. I'm sure some of the more frequent cruisers who love their lattes and cappucinos will know for sure. That would make a nice little sailaway gift, too....a coffee mug with a few cookies or chocolates and a coffee card.

There aren't any coffee cards on any of HAL's ships. The coffees in the Explorations Cafe are great - all types.

I've never seen any coffee cards offered on HAL ships. I suppose if you drink at least several specialty coffees a day, it might be worth buying such a card IF they make it available.
The coffees are priced quite reasonably IMO and are really, really good.
The prices in comparison to Starbucks type places are much lower.

Yes, I believe a large latte comes in under $2. I'd go for a coffee card if they had one, especially if it covered the pastries at Explorations as well as the beverages. Perfect for an afternoon tea or a snack when getting back from port, hot chocolate to sip while walking on deck.
I board tomorrow! *wriggles with glee*

Thanks for the good info, folks!
Good to hear that the specialty coffees are reasonably priced in the Explorations Cafe (unlike Starbucks!). I will definitely check it out. Too bad it sounds like you also pay extra for the pastries there? It surprises me, as the RCI ships I have been on did not charge for such goodies if I remember correctly. Oh well...I should NOT be eating pastries anyway!!!:D
Westerdam to Alaska in 6 DAYS!!!

I'm of two minds about paying for stuff at Explorations. On the one hand, it's nickel and diming. You can still get espresso/cappuchino for free in the DR, I believe. The pastries at Explorations are different and far better than anything at the Lido, and sometimes better than desserts at the DR. Think cheesecakes, cookies, choc covered strawberries, and cinnamon rolls the size of your head. :)
On the bright side, at least the small fee keeps lines down. :)

I was on the Zaandam in March/April, and with every drink I purchased in the Exploration's Cafe, I was offered a complimentary pastry of my choice-I never had to pay for them!
Most drinks were $1.75 for small and $2 for large

The pastries all look delicious and are very tempting. :) So far, DH and I have been able to resist. We get our coffees and say No thank you to the pastries. I don't know if there was a charge or not as we never asked for one.

Apparently you can get these cappacino and latte's in the dining room at dinner FREE.. Not too many people know about this. You just have to ask.

On our recent Oosterdam cruise, there WAS a coffee card. One of our CC friends had one. I don't really know the details of it - DanaL, are you out there??

I had a (free) latte every evening after dinner on the Zui' and Oosterdam. Wanted that little boost before the nights activities...

I had a lovely mocha, but I had to return my sticky bun since it was SO stale. The girl was very nice about it and said they were made fresh daily, but I could not eat it.
