hotel majestic or hotel colon

still not sure what is the better of two, care more about convenience, modernization, safety, than about price. any suggestions?

Depends in large part on what location you prefer -- Majestic puts you in Pg. de Gracia, an elegant part of town; while Colon has you in the middle of Barri Gotic, the old town. Both are convenient locations for exploring all of Barcelona. Majestic is probably a nicer hotel, if price is not so much a matter.

We stayed in the Hotel Colon for a few nights in April, 2004. It was quite nice and at the centre of the tourist district, right across a cathedral and just a few steps to ATM machines, souvenir shops and restaurants. It charged us 160 euros per night then. A cursory search on the internet surprisingly shows that its price has gone down, to 130 euros this month. This hotel has been popular with the average cruiser.

The Hotel Majestic shows 390 euros per day this month. So it is a lot more expensive, even though it can be nicer.
