What age structure should we expect for our Alaskan cruise on Statendam in 2 weeks (May 26 from Seward to Vancouver).

I'm only 32 myself, but the teen area on the top deck looks very nice and I would like to try out the hammocks up there. Of course, that won't be possible if there are are lots of teenagers or children on board.

Hate to break it to you, Marc, but if you're referring to the Oasis, you won't be allowed up there. HAL policy says that area is for kids only ... no adults allowed ... unless there are absolutely no kids onboard ... highly unlikely on a seven-day Alaska run. Even if the schools are still in session, you'll have many parents with no hesitation to yank the kids for one week for a family vacation. So there will be kids and teens programs running, and the Oasis will be their private refuge.

Sorry ...

I agree, though, it is an awesome area. We had one of our Amsterdam Survivor challenges up there. Because ours was a 30-day cruise in early January, there were no teens whatsoever onboard, and only ... I believe ... two very young children. So, we had use of the Oasis. But that's very much a rarity.

The Oasis does look great but as said, it is only for the children. When I first saw it, I wanted to take down one of those two piece deck chairs with pads to our verandah.

Oh well, we will see. I read a review of someone who said as there were no kids on board they could use the Oasis.

Absolutely correct. Problem is that I doubt your Alaska cruise will have zero kids on it. It's just not likely on a seven-day Alaska run. True, there may not be a lot of kids if schools are still in session ... but surely there will be maybe 50 or so at least.

Of course, you could always "sneak" up there and play dumb when they come to throw you out. :)

We are also on this cruise. I was beginning to think we would be the only CC'ers on board! Last time we went to Alaska in early June there were almost no children on board. I would also guess there will be many first timers who don't even know the Oaisis is there. However it will probably be too cold to really enjoy it.

We're on this cruise, too.
So that makes three CC cabins traveling???

I'll bring good clothing. :-) If it is not brightly lit up there, it probably would make a good spot for stargazing, laying in a hammock. Of course the forward deck is also a great spot, especially since there is no lighting because of the bridge. However, laying on the teak deck is not as comfortable as a hammock. :-)

Is the oasis accessible from the outside or only through the stairs coming up from the youth center?

On the Zaandam it was accessable from the outside right above the rear pool.
