I have skimmed these boards quite a bit these last few weeks and have not heard of anyone flying Hawaiian Air to Tahiti. Do they exist?
When we booked our trip, we chose Hawaiian since we could use our airline miles. I was wondering since I hear so many stories about flying to/from Tahiti and was curious as to what to expect with Hawaiian.
Thanks!

We flew on Hawaiian Air to the Big Island last July. They served real food. You will want to sit as far forward in the plane as you can so you get a choice of entre. There were 3 choices on our flights to and from the mainland. They are a quality airline.
Check their website: http://www.hawaiianair.com/
If I was flying to Hawaii, they would be my first choice, even if United was a little less expensive.

Agree - HA is fine. Only issue might be they have only one LAX/PPT turn-around trip (same aircraft) flight out on Sat and back on Sunday. If this Saturday/Sunday schedule is a fit - might be a good option. SeaFish

We flew Hawaiian on a Renisance charter LAX to PPT. Service was great and we had no complaints at all. This was back in Sept. 2001.

According to HA's website they have one flight a day (6 days a week)from Honolulu to Papeete at 6:10pm arriving at 11:45 pm. Does anyone know what the time difference is between Hawaii/Tahiti or LA/Tahiti?

I took the Honolulu to Tahiti flight several years ago using frequent flyer miles. The only problem with that route is Honolulu isn't exactly on the way. If I recall correctly it was an 8 hour flight from HNL to PPT couple that with the 6 hour flight from LAX and it is alot quicker to go direct from LAX.

The flight time from the NW seems good, but the layover time is pretty long for the flights we are looking at. I was thinking that with several hours between flights that we could maybe leave the airport and do some sightseeing. Anyone done this?

LaurieB,
We were thinking the same thing too. I am glad that we have the long layover now because we will have enough time to get out and grab lunch near Waikiki. That will be a nice break between two 5 hour flights. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We flew Hawaiian from San Diego to Tahiti for the Tahitian Princess cruise in 9/2003. There is only 1 flight a week in and out but it works out fine with a 10 day cruise. We Flew on Saturday and spent a couple of days in Tahiti to climatize then onto the cruise ship. It worked out great for us. We knew if we used the cruise ship's air carrier it was going to be Omni and my wife had heard enough bad press about Omni that I knew it was worth it to switch to Hawaiian. We also had a bunch of miles on Hawaiian and we flew first class which made the flight go alot quicker. Each leg is about 5-6 hours. We stayed at the airport...on the way over it doesn't seem to take long...on the way back you get to Honolulu around 6am..customs is pretty quick and then you have enough time to make a run to Honolulu....I took a nap in the first class lounge. So, now with the additional miles we are flying to Hawaii this summer for free.......it was definately worth the layover for us for several reasons.

Mr. Lucky,
We are also flying first (using miles). What was their first class like? Also, i'm interested in what they're first class lounge is like in Honolulu. It sounds like a good spot for a nap. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'm thinking that we won't mind the layover - we get so antsy on the planes after a few hours.
Thanks!

Thanks for the information! We're considering Tahiti next year and this will help us decide on airline tickets.

Suzy,
First Class on Hawaiian was great, the service and the comfort really added to the vacation. The first class lounge in Honolulu was nothing special...some fruit drinks and water for refreshments and vending machine crackers.
There were plenty of areas to stretch out in and relax.I was really looking forward to having that lounge available on the way over......I thought a few cocktails in a private lounge would make the layover enjoyable. Anyway, I would check as your vacation gets closer....I heard they were thinking of closing it down. Which by the way would be good for you,if it's closed you could use Delta's or one of the other carriers lounge's.
The first class lounge in Tahiti is very comfortable with a nice beverage and snack selection.
Tahiti is an amazing place and crusing around for 10 days is a great way to get a taste for the islands...you will never forget this vacation.

Thanks, MrLuck!
Hearing all that makes the trip seem even more exciting. We are not "first class" travelers, but since this is a special occasion we thought we'd splurge a bit.
You should write us a little trip report when you get the chance - I love reading them!

Suzy,
I'm heading out for the weekend but I would be glad to give you a trip report next week. The Tahitian Princess has 2 routes...are you going to Moorea, Huihine, Raratonga, Bora Bora...?? We took this cruise and loved it...we took a BUNCH of land tours...my wife scheduled 2 a day on most island. By the time we got to Bora Bora we were cancelling tours...we had a lot of circle island tours and after a couple they all started to look the same.
