I think the Star has the Steakhouse already. I sure hope so. I am a total sucker for prime rib.

The Sterling Steakhouse on the Sun and Dawn are entirely different then on the Diamond. The Sterling Steakhouse on the Sun and Dawn require an extra fee while the Diamond has a limited menu and doesn't require a fee. While on the Sun Princess - the Sterling Steakhouse did not have Prime Rib (while the Diamond does).

I have heard that the Sterling Steakhouse on the Star is similar to the Sun and Dawn, but a smaller version (according to Toto who is on the Sun Princess right now) --they may have done a smaller menu to try the Sterling Steakhouse on the Grand class ships to see if it would succeed.

I have no clue what the Caribbean Princess has. Just listed the above info so that people wouldn't get confused since Princess is doing the Sterling Steakhouse different on various ships.

Sterlings is on the Star and has great Prime Rib. Last November it occupied the space that was the Southwestern restuarant, but I think this is one of the improvements that is being done while she is in Wet Dock. The extra charge was $15 PP but well worth it. The steaks were great!

Cactusrose, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have made me so happy. Maybe not my hubby, but certainly me. When he takes me out to eat, I want prime rib. When they bring it, he is so embarrassed, I get the biggest piece available. And I eat every bite. LOL And I weigh all of 100 lbs. LOL

The Star must be experimenting with their Sterling menu as when we sailed on her from Nov 1-Nov 25, there was no prime rib offered on the menu for us there. Hummmmmmmmm interesting.

I have to admit - I am impressed with the Prime rib in the dining room which is served the first and last nights (I believe on 7 day sailings). On the first night, they claim the prime rib comes from my home state http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Coral, I agree. The prime is awesome. Just thought if Sterling was open earlier, I could have more!!!!!!!! I don't really want to miss the dining room either. Ugh!, I hate decisions. I would make a great beach bum with a pit in the sand.

Sue,

I am curious when the Grand and Golden are going to receive the Sterling Steakhouse. The Golden is going into dry dock at the end of April and I believe the Grand is after it's last fall foliage trip (at least I can't account for where the ship will be between NYC and Galveston).

While on the Sun Princess - the Sterling Steakhouse was one of the best steaks I have ever had (and I live in steak country). I just ordered off the menu (no 2nd entrees) and I was so stuffed, I couldn't finish my dessert (chocolate walnut or pecan pie - it was sooo rich).

Enjoy your time on the Star!

Boy I'll say, that Nebraska Corn-fed beef is tops! Coming from you that's quite a recommendation!

I remember driving to Falls City, NE with my dad when I was a little kid (because it was the closest town inside the Nebraska/Kansas border) for a freezer full of meat a couple times a year.

Happy Cruising

Here is some info I found on the web (hope I won't get anyone upset with copyright info). This is very similar to the menu we had on the Sun Princess at Sterling Steakhouse:

Steakhouse patrons can choose from four different cuts of beef, exclusively available in this dining venue, in several sizes - Rib Eye (10- and 12-oz. portions), New York Strip (10 and 12 oz.), Porter House (20 oz.) and Filet Mignon (8 and 10 oz.). A barbeque chicken option is available as well, as are a selection of favorite steakhouse extras -- with starters such as a blooming onion, jalapeno poppers, hearty chili and fresh Caesar salad tossed tableside. Steaks are accompanied by a choice of traditional options, including baked potato or fries, creamed spinach and corn on the cob. For those who still have room after the meal, a selection of homestyle specialty desserts is available as well.Â*

Here is the website where I found the info:

Hi Chris,

I would have thought you would have great steaks in Kansas also! We do have great steaks but really bad seafood. Oh well.

On the Sun, most of the items you posted from that site Coral, were available. Except for the Jalapeno poppers, they were not offered. No foods were prepared table side, even the salad was delivered already made.
But the steaks were yummmmmmmmy along with the other options. Corn Casserole was offered as a side dish and it was delicious and a tad spicy, not too spicy, just yummy.

They delivered the biggest birthday cake I have ever seen on a ship to our large group of birthday party attendees, and it was a delicious fresh strawberry shortcake.
The second time we had dinner there we chose the creme brulee (which was ice cold and even the carmelized sugar was soggy, a big disappointment to me as it is usually my favorite when served warm on top and cold on the bottom), and hubby had the tree cheesecake dessert. Three large pieces of different kinds of cheesecakes. YUM!

I sometimes think that the Sterling menu must vary slightly from ship to ship as although the meat cuts are pretty much the same from what we have seen, the side dishes and other items can be very different.

We were on the Pacific Princess (new) last November, Papeete to Sydney, and thought the Sterling Steakhouse Restaurant on that ship was excellent.

My wife had Prime Rib, and said it was cooked perfectly. I had Filet Mignon (the smaller of two sizes offered) and thought it not only very good, but the right sized portion for one with a smaller appetite.

We only went once (should have gone a second time), but found the food in the main dining room generally well prepared also. I sent back only one meal - crab one night was horribly salty - replacement was fine.
