View Full Version : A Couple HALF MOON CAY Questions...If I May...

For those who have had the pleasure of enjoying HALF MOON CAY...would you mind answering a couple more questions...
1. Is it possible to get a beach recliner without renting a Clam Shell...or are they only available with the Clam Shell rentals? If the beach recliners are available...what (if any) is the fee charged for them?
2. If you pre-reserve a Clam Shell, how do you know which one is yours? We have a member in our group that will be getting a Cabana with Butler for four of the eight people, who are celebrating a "special event", in our group to use. Would it be possible to have those that might be needing a Clam Shell to have their Clam Shells on the beach in front of the Cabana that gets reserved?
3. Some people in my traveling "group" may be reserving Shore Excursions on HALF MOON CAY. It seems that many of these "excursions" leave from the area near where the ship's tender boats dock. The people that are renting the Cabana/Butler would like to know if there "transportation" (from the Cabanas) to that area where the HALF MOON CAY Excursions depart from or if they will have to walk to that "area". The answer to this question will greatly determine which Cabana they want to request.
As always, thanks in advance for all your pearls of wisdom!

OK, have not been to HMC since FEB 05 so things could have changed! Somehow, I'm sure, if they have and I wind up giving you bunk info/pearls, someone will set me straight faster than you can say "what's for lunch" ;)
The beach recliners/chairs were always "first come, first served" and were free - You just have to get out there early because they get hook shanked pretty fast!
There is no transportation on HMC except what you bring with you i.e. your two feet. It's not a far walk from the beach to the tender dock. That is, once again, if you get there early!
Have no experience with the clambakes, sorry;)
Have a great time anf enjoy beautiful HMC!

We rented clamshells in June 05 and you get a ticket. Bring the ticket to this desk on the beach and they will bring you to a clamshell with two chairs under it. You put your stuff down and that is your clamshell for the day (even while we did the Eco Lagoon Kayaking).
You will love HMC. It is very nice and relaxing.

The cabanas are not handy to the area where the tours begin - so try to get one as close as possible. Once you know the color of the cabana that you have rented, and you have your tickets for the clamshells, tell the person at the hut what the cabana color is and that you want clamshells in that area - otherwise they will just assign them to you.
There is transportation from the tender area to the cabanas and at the end of the day - back to the tender area. But no transportation in between those times.

You can get a lounge chair without renting a clam shell. They are set up all over the beach area.
Enjoy Half Moon Cay, I always find it to be the highlight of my HAL cruise.

Does anyone know if there are paved walkways on HMC which you can use to get from 1 place to another? I saw some photos which looked like there were. Thanks, kathi

When we were there last October, there was an old truck with wooden benches in the back that acted as a shuttle to take us to the cabanas. We were in Turquoise which turned out to be in easy walking distance so we just walked back in the afternoon.

There are paved areas when you first enter Half Moon Cay, but after that, if I remember correctly, there are not, its all sand.

There is supposed to be some kind of transportation. I have been to HMC many times but I have never seen it, but I am sure others have. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

They have a truck - open ended and load from the back. You sit on a bench type and hold on as it bumps along.
They will take you to the Jet Ski area, the sting ray swim or the horse back riding, and some other areas.
It's not for transportation from the tender dock to your cabana or to get lunch.
You get around the old fashion way -- on foot.
Aside from the immediate docking area the roads are packed dirt and sand.
The beach is designed to have the cabanas and clam shells to the back of the beach area and the free lounge chairs in front of them - down to the water line.
This way the clam shell do not block anyones view of beauty in the water or on the beach. ;)

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR "PEARLS"
Now, just to clarify things...does the "truck" transportation for HMC Excursions pick up the "excursion" people from one location (that one being near where the tender boats drop you off) -or- are there several "truck stops" along the pathways that you can "hitch" a ride from?
Does having the BUTLER PACKAGE added on to the Cabana give you any "transportation" advantages in getting around HMC while you are there? (i.e. can the butler call for "transportation" other than getting to and from the cabana at the beginning and end of the day at HMC?) The reason I ask is because of some mobility problems my "cabana people" may have.
Thanks for your further insights!

Looks like you have all the info you need but I'll just add a few comments that might help. We travelled with an elderly lady who had mobility issues and one problem was the washrooms are only at one end close to the tender landing so try to get your cabana close to there. Otherwise it is a trek for those who have mobility issues in the heat to use the washroom. There is pavement but if you have a cabanna further down the beach then you have to walk part way on the sand. Again difficult for those who are using walkers.:)

Hi Debjo!
Perhaps you can request an accessible Cabana or Clamshell when you reserve it? Try calling the HAL customer service line. The Beach activities desk at HMC was pretty helpful when we wanted to cancel one clamshell - they may be able to fulfill your placement request onsite if you get there early enough and if items aren't sold out.
HMC is a little slice of paradise. Here's a photo of the walkways nearest the tendering area. Some Cabanas are easily accessed from the walkway. To get to the beach, you must go down some steps and through the sand, though - tough for those with mobility problems.
