For those of you who haven't yet discovered the pre-adolescent joys of the "walter the farting dog" books, here is your opportunity. Just noticed in today's USA Today that the latest installment of this wonderful series about Walter ( 5 books in all now) is out. The title is as above, about Walter's adventures on the "Sea Wind".
These are books that will delight the 4-10 yr olds in your life (and the 58 yr olds who never grew up *S*) and probably appall their parents. That alone should make the purchase worthwhile.
So.. if you want a sure hit b'day present or to share your love of crusing w/ the grandkids or that special niece or nephew, look in the children's section at your local book store for Walter's adventures. (You might even be able to find the book by smell *L* )
Have no commercial interest in this.. just discovered the Walter series about 3 yrs ago and have had great fun sharing it with the youngsters in my life.

Oh, good grief!:D At first I didn't believe this so I went to Amazon. It has been so, so long since I've been into children's books that I've completely missed the trends!

Lends new meaning to the "poop deck"
Our cruise on the Oosterdam last October had twenty or so service dogs. They had flats of sod on the Promenade deck at one end. They were pretty icky by week's end. :p

You must have missed the entire "Captain Underpants" phenomenon then? My little boys (10, 9, and 6) just ROAR when they read those.
I'll certainly be looking for "Walter" now. Heh. I just love scandalizing the grandmas. [insert evil grin]

Looks like it will be a good one to check out and read at the library. DD (age 8) would go through it too fast to warrant a purchase. Thanks!

I've been out of this loop! My grandkids would LOVE this book! I can't wait to buy it and see the look on their mom's face! ;)

jhannah,
Great for reinforcing with the grandkids about the importance of reading. Wondering if you are doing it more to have smiling children or the glaring eyes of their mom???
My mom does that sort of thing all the time to me now....paying me back big time.

For the Titanic buffs, there is a children's book, "Polar The Titanic Bear" by Daisy Spedden. It is a true story of a toy bear who survived the Titanic. It was written by a Titanic survivor for her son who also survived along with his teddy bear, Polar. Lots of good pictures.

Can I ask what Walter's major malfunction is? Is it the Science Diet or the Eukanuba or is it like Rusty the horse in Seinfeld, fifty cans of Beef-A-Reeno?

Copper10-8 that is too funny. For the past 24 hours it seems that five or six things that have happened in our life have been compared to Seinfeld.
We were at Borders last night, but not enough time to search and find. Will have to go back again later this week (doesn't look like much else will be going on with all the rain).
Just remember when you go to bookstore to look at book, don't pull a George and bring it to the bathroom with you.
To all the grandparents who will be allowing their grandchildren to enjoy a book, that is great. But I think I can do a roll of eyes and say "thanks alot" from all of your children. Yes we know you are getting us back for every and anything we did when we were kids.

I just remembered while reading the other dog thread that while I was on the Ryndam there was a thread about a Dog cruising but did not take the time to open and read the thread because we know how precious those internet minutes are. So I did a seach of DOG in this forum and found it. I laughed out loud espcially what Copper said:D
Now I really wished I had grandchildren I still may have to go to a book store and check this out. Also "Polar the Titanic Bear" sounds really interesting.

I hope it's not a scratch-and-sniff book. ;)

Hey, Greg, it would be a best-seller for sure. Every pre-teen boy would simply HAVE to get one! ;)

LOL! We stopped at Barnes and Noble the other day and I read it to my boys. My nine-year-old was laughing so hard he turned upside down in the chair! I can only imagine how he would react to a scratch-and-sniff!
