Mariner luggage tags and button

On our first HAL cruise, we were in a suite. In our douments they sent us buttons which we wore during check-in. As soon as we entered the terminal building, they escorted us to an available check-in agent, even though there was a line.

Last time, on the same ship, we didn't get buttons, but we just wore the buttons from last time again, just to see what happens, nothing did.

This time, for our Alaska cruise in 2 weeks, we did get buttons again, but those say "Mariner" at the bottom and also on the luggage tags "Mariner" is mentioned.

So, is there any logic when those things are sent out and when not and what are they really good for?

luggage tags should come with each set of tickets.
after your first cruise you should get buttons with luggage tags.
after your first cruise you are a Mariner.

So if dd and I get a mariner button with our upcoming who we be given VIP treatment on embarkation.

The Mariner luggage tags and buttons get you nothing special. About 80% of the pax are Mariners anyway, most not wearing the button because they know it does not get you special treatment of any kind.

You were escorted to an available check-in without waiting because you were an S pax. There is a special line for S (Deluxe Suite) and PS (Penthouse) pax.

It has been years since since we take those buttons along with us. I leave them at home. About 6 years ago I had them in my documents, in my hand, while going throuh security, they set off the alarm. I think we wore them once getting onto our second cruise. Never did wear them during the cruise.

There are 2 types of new luggage tags. For first time cruisers on HAL, they are plain. But for repeat passengers it is a combination luggage tag with Mariner written on them. HAL no longer supplies a separate oral (round) tag with "Mariner" on it.

Marc, the Mariner button is not associated with any category of cabin accommodation. So that wasn't the reason you were taken to a particular line.

Gruetzi Marc; those oral;) Mariner buttons and luggage tags won't get you any special treatment at embarkation! Being in a certain suite category will. Enjoy your cruise in Alaska and have a great time! Wiedersehn!

if you are in an s class cabin just look for the suite check in line ---its plainly identified

We didn't have to stand in any line, that's what I found surprising. They just led us to an available check-in agent right when we entered the terminal, even though there was a line. At the time I assumed that the button was the identification for suite guests, but if it isn't I have no idea how else they knew.

The suite snobs can put them in a mailbox anywhere in the country and they will get to the proper place!!

Interestingly, we rec'd our docs today for our Alaska cruisetour commencing next week.
It's our first HAL cruise, but I'm a multiple past passenger on Carnival ... dh has never been on either line.
We received Mariner buttons and baggage tags as well as an "alumni" # noted on our tickets.
I'm guessing the Vacation Interchange Privileges between all the Carnival Corp lines made us a Mariner on HAL ..... ?

Thinking back......did you have a luggage tag on your carryon bag? If so, they would have seen your cabin number and identified it as a Suite.

Or....very often as we come into the terminal, the HAL workers are checking to be sure everyone has all their documents filled in and in hand to keep the line moving. As they checked to be sure you had yours, they could have noticed your cabin number and saw you were a Suite passenger.

The Mariners Buttons were not the reason you got 'special attention'. Whatever the reason, good you got to enjoy an easy boarding. Hopefully.......all your boardings will be fast and smooth.

I know that most HAL cruisers are Mariners and have the Mariners luggage tags. This is our third HAL cruise and I hope this time we get the Mariners tags--didn't get them on our 2nd HAL cruiser on Zuiderdam last summer.

Mariner buttons - all past passengers on HAL and as you have read here - some new HAL cruisers seem to be getting them included in their documents as well.

So I quess you should correct yourself and include all passengers who wish to send their Mariner buttons to help build New Orleans - not just we "suite snobs".
