I am on a southbound Alaska cruise aboard the Statendam in June. Does anyone know which nights of this cruise will be designated formal nights? We have lots of shore excursions planned and many do not get us back to the ship until shortly before our early sitting. Also, since this cruise is after 5 days on land, we don't necessarily want to bring formal attire for just two nights. We are trying to minimize the luggage needed and formal attire will require different shoes and other clothes.

Hi--
If you are doing a HAL cruisetour, you can pack a separate suitcase with your cruise clothing (things you will not need on the land portion) and check it in with HAL personnel in Anchorage or Fairbanks, depending on your particular cruisetour. That way you don't have to lug that one suitcase on the entire cruisetour ... it'll be sent directly to the ship.
Details on this should be in your documentation package, in the (I think) Tour Tips 2006 booklet.
We're doing Statendam in two weeks and that's our plan, unless someone knows of a reason it's inadvisable ....
Thanks

Right now the formal nights for the Southbound cruise on the Statendam are scheduled for Saturday night (Hubbard Glacier) and Tuesday (Juneau). I don't see this schedule changing much.
