I can see them in all public washrooms onboard, hooked up to alarms so nobody can sneak by. Or randomly located throughout the ship, taking people by surprise as they walk around. The alarms could be bells or sirens, or possibly a computerized voice that says "YOU FORGOT TO WASH YOUR HANDS". Yep, that might do it. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Don't you hate when they don't have towels in a restroom and have to use a air dryer.

Yes, I do! Because what's the first thing you do after you've washed your hands? Grab the icky handle to turn off the faucet and then touch the icky door knob to open the door. If I have a paper towel, I can do both without some kind of contortion involving my elbow and my behind. Thankfully, there's no purse I own that's too small for Purell, for after leaving the washroom.

Anyone with any sense would NOT touch the "icky" door handle.... That has to be the worst design on a ship, i.e. restroom doors that open inwards *and* don't have paper towels.

How do you get the title "Executive Leader of the Handwashing Leadership Forum?" and the best quote of the day "Nobody wants doo-doo on their burger." Have we spent a lot of tax dollars to survey people on that- or is it just an assumption?! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

On a serious note, I would have thought the publicity surrounding the Norwalk virus would have had some effect on people and their hand washing practices but no such luck. By my not so scientific observation last week, about 70 of the "ladies" using the facilities did not even bother to stop at the sink upon exiting the toilets. I quick glance in the mirror and off the the Horizon Court they went!! I was pretty grossed out.

The thing in the article that jumped out at me was the report that most people don't adequately scrub around their fingernails and between their fingers. I say if anyone gets "that stuff" under their nails and between their fingers (for heaven's sake!!!) they have a serious hygiene problem!

So this guy goes into the restroom and washes his hands first. His friend said why do you do that. Well I don't want to touch my ** with dirty hands.

The more I think of that, the more I'd like to see it. If you could get someone to video it, you might be able to make a fortune. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In the Ladies Restroom, when there's no paper towel, we nudge the faucet off with our elbow and bump the door open with our behind. Maybe your nudges and bumps are reversed in the Men's Room, so it sounds more interesting?? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And....I know when I was surveyed, I checked off that I doo not want doo-doo on my burger.

Well folks, I work in healthcare and the statistics show that only about 44% of healthcare professionals wash their hands between patients!! I always carry an alcohol pump spray wash. It works!

Research! One of the JCAHO requirements for hospitals in 2004 is to have antimicrocbial (alcohol based scrubs qualify) available for staff. We have them mounted on the inside of the doorway of every patient room.
