Going on an Alaska cruise in June, what items would really be important to bring? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Drysuit for scuba diving. The water temperature is a bit cooler than the Caribbean http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ,but there is so much cool stuff to see underwater there.

Although I didn't have any trouble with biting critters in September I hear that they are pretty pesky in June and July. While I took bug spray, I never used it but you might very well need it.

Walking shoes that can withstand rain are advisable. A lined and hooded rain jacket is a must. Warm gloves and hat for glacier viewing are good ideas.

I don't know the correct name for these things but I have some for my upcoming trip and regretted not having them the first time in Alaska...it's the modern version of earmuffs. I think it's called an earband.

Rain pants as well. Expect that the weather will vary--can be very warm and sunny one day (in the 90's sometimes in July and AUgust), and rainy and cold the next. The ship is warm so that you can usually wear anything on board unless you go outside and it's cold and rainy. I noted not as many people went swimmming even with the inside covered--if it's cold outside, I still find it a little cold near the pool area. Layers are definitely important--bring a sweatshirt or something warm to put on when it's cold. There was a list that someone put on the boards last year--I think under the Ports of Call for Alaska that was really helpful. A camera also is a must!
