Not this year, but we have been to Alaska in May, and have had good weather for the most part.

Best advice I think is "layering", and be prepared for changeable conditions.
A good windbreaker/rain shell jacket (lightweight) has served us well in the past.

Here's a link to a site that gives current Alaska Cruise Port weather info.

If you visit the Alaska board, one of the earlier May sailing on the NCL Wind reported miserable conditions. :(

We're sailing June 3rd and hope for improved conditions.

Have a great trip.

on weather.com since we will be on the May 20th cruise to Alaska. Looks like the weather isn't too bad up until the day we leave from Seattle - then looks like rain every day. They also mentioned something about rough seas...but I suggest you take a look at the 10 day or month forecast on www.weather.com. The suggestion to take clothes for layering, umbrella and rain jacket sounds like a good one. We feel the same as you....we'll be enjoying ourselves despite the weather and looking forward to the trip! Have a good time!

We just got back from a great westerdam cruise to Alaska, and being from Florida, we were COLD!!! We were very fortunate with weather, some rain, but more the drizzly variety than the day-ruining variety. We were fine with raincoats and hats. WE checked the weather repeatedly before leaving, and it was really not that accurate. It was colder and drier than we had read up on. One thing also to keep in mind, there is a lot of wind, or at least we had a lot of wind, so it felt colder than it was. We layered, and stayed layered! Also, when you are whale watchin on the ship, on any open decks, it is REALLY cold with all the wind!

Just our experience!!! Oh, and glacier bay??? it snowed!!!!!!!!!!!!

May is still a very chilly time for Alaska. Remember that the sun is just starting to get higher.

So dress in layers - take a hat - gloves - be prepared.

Which ship will you be on? We are leaving on the Oosterdam the same day. I'm packed and can't wait.

The weather was intermittently rainy. Tendering in Sitka was a chilly experience. We needed our warm gloves and fleece lined, hooded water-proof jackets. Hubbard Glacier was frigid and the hot pea soup was great.
We had seas of 20 to 25 ft. and lots of pax wearing patches behind ears.
The CD in an "About Ship" meeting told us we could take 70 - 75 ft. waves and HOTMAN Deering said they sure save a lot on food on those days!
