US is resuming full diplomatic relations with Libya, which is good news for HAL cruisers - and other travelers, too.

We're booked on Prinsendam in August with two stops in Libya - which has interesting Greco-Roman ruins.

There have been reports of US citiizens not allowed off cruise ships in Libya. I was worried about that, so when HAL sent a message a tour was canceled I was sure it was probably Libya. Wrong! HAL canceled a stop in Tunisia for "operational reasons" and substituted Malta. While disappointed that we wouldn't be able to return to Tunisia on this cruise, I was very glad Libya remained on the itinerary.

Will Cuba be next? I doubt it.

We are scheduled for Tripoli in '07 and from my reading online I found out that sometimes they have to cxl the port because of the Americans onboard and other times the Germans, etc.

So, we will see what happens next year but you should be good to go in August.

This is good news. One of the main reasons we chose the Oct. 22, 2006 HAL cruise was the possibility of seeing Leptus Magna. Now it looks as though we have a better chance of being able to dock in Libya. Thanks for the update.:)
