Just interested in knowing how many of you love to sleep with your balcony door open at night.

My wife likes the sound of the ocean - so we often leave the balcony door open a bit - if not too windy, etc.

We have tried- too noisy from the ocean. But sure liked the fresh air.

I love sleeping with the balcony door open. I rarely open it all the way -- usually, about a foot or so. The fresh air is great.

The only exception when we don't have it open is if it is too hot and humid at night, and that is almost never. We love the sound of the ocean, and the air.

I have CD's that play the sound of the ocean waves. I like to play them at night as it reminds me of when I'm sailing on a cruise ship. It always helps relax me and makes me feel like I'm on vacation......that is until I wake up and have to head out to work. ;-(
Just about 3 weeks and I'm on the Diamond to Alasaka! ;-))

Leave for the Grand Saturday, only my second balcony experience, but am looking forward to sleeping with the balcony door open. Last trip hardly ever had the door closed. Will never be able to cruise with the balcony again.

Miracle, think you mean "without" the balcony again. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Woops. Sorry misread that.

Love to keep the balcony door open. Like Gail706, we'll never be able to cruise again without a balcony.

Do you realize that leaving the door open creates a vacuum and causes the AC in nearby cabins to not cool properly?

Where did you find that out....seems strange that having a balcony door open in one cabin would effect the next one.
would like to know about that for sure...I am not one to make it bad for any of the other cruisers.

In all my cruises, I have had many ship Engineers come to my cabin because it is too hot. They have all said the same thing about cabin doors being open. Some ships even post a small sign on the door to not leave it open.
You can feel the air rush out from under the doors into the hallway.

I have to speak up for those who like the aircondition turned WAY down. I like it cold when I go to sleep so I can use lots of blankets. I just feel more secure. Weird, maybe. So I keep the door closed at all times.

I like all doors and windows closed when I sleep--prefer it dark and quiet, whether at home or on a cruise.

If it weren't for the ability to sleep with the balcony door open, my husband would never cruise again. He can't stand to sleep in stuffy rooms. We sleep with the a window open at least an inch all winter - in the Northeast!

I think PDM is right!! One night we left the balcony door open about 2 feet...It was summer and very hot and humid.. I woke up a few hours later because I felt warm. The cabin was totally fogged up the walls, the mirror were fogged and wet. The air was thick with fog too.The cool air conditioned air sure didn't mix well with the humid outside air!!
Now I either just open it a crack or wake up and close it in the night. I have read what PDM said on other sites..I think it must stress out the system trying to compensate for all the open doors...But it sure sounds great to hear the ocean!!! Cindy

Always start out with it open;might have to close a bit if too humid but nothing like the sound of the wind and waves to put you aslsumber!! Wear blinders so don't get awakened too early!

Just a friendly reminder to all you open-balcony-door fresh-air lovers - if you can hear the ocean waves inside your cabin, others on their balconies outside can hear what is going on inside your cabin! On our recent Diamond Princess cruise on two different occasions while sitting on our balcony we were entertained by the sounds of a couple near us "having some fun" (reminded me of Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). I wonder if they realized how much of what they were doing was audible to others outside?!! LOL!

I noticed on my last cruise that it was noisy being on the balcony. I don't know if it was because we were surrounded by glaciers in Alaska and all the chatter was echoing back to us, or if it was just something in the way the sounds bounce of the balconies. I could hear the noises from all the other surrounding cabin's balconies. I was very surprised by what I thought would be a quiet environment.... and it wasn't.
