How Formal? In Cabin Announcements?

OK, I'm in need of a vacation and considering trying Princess so I'm doing my homework:

How formal are the formal nights (just curious-I can go full formal or more laid back without caring much either way but I just wanted to know how other passengers handle it).

Are there announcements in the cabins? I sailed on Celebrity in part because they don't do the announcements unless they have to so I'm hoping they don't do many at Princess. I need my nap!!!

On our Golden cruise last month, our first on Princess, the appropriate dress on formal night was full formal.

The only announcement I recall hearing in our cabin was to announce the muster drill on embarkation day.

You'll probably get lots of responses, but I'll start it off with my opinion. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Many men wear tuxes or dark suits, but also many wear regular suits or sport coats. Women wear anything from very fancy dresses to cocktail dresses or "sparkly" pants suits. I always think the key is "sparkly". (Did I spell that right?) Also, if you do dress up you should STAY dressed up all evening. (IMHO) I think it's tacky to see people in blue jeans at the shows or in the casino on formal night. If you don't want to dress up you can always eat in the buffet and hang out at the pool or in your cabin, but I personally wouldn't go to the shows unless dressed up.

Now announcements in the cabins is certainly less controversial. No they are not made in the cabins. They are made on one of the TV channels and in the hallway. We always have the problem of not having the TV on the correct channel and we'll either scramble to change the channel or run for the door so we can hear the announcements. I like to wear my tuxedo on formal nights. On our past few Princess cruises, I'd estimate 25% of the men wore tuxedos in the dining room, 73% wore dark suits (or at least a sport coat, some with ties and some without), and 2% did not wear a coat--but some wore ties.

There are announcements over the PA system in the hallways and public areas. You can barely hear them in the cabin--but can tune in your TV to one of the stations to hear them clearly if you wish. The announcements are not so loud that they would wake you.
