Flying from KC to Orlando on Thursday and spending a day at Universal studios on Friday before boarding on Saturday....making it an extended vacation. Our flight is late on the 9th so we will probably visit Kennedy Space center before heading back to the airport.

Hi. Wow, sounds like a great vacation. I am jealous! We are planning to fly down Friday night and stay at the Hyatt in the airport, then shuttle to the dock. We also are looking at leaving mid-afternoon on the 9th. Basically, we fly in and then fly out. Our daughter school starts 9/5 and she will miss the first few days. We have to get back by Sunday to get last minute school stuff. Otherwise I would have stayed until Sunday.

I have 3 girls (10, 8, 6) and one boy (4) and this is our first Disney cruise. We've done RCCL in the past but I have much higher hopes for this trip. My kids were bored on RCCL, and my son wasn't old enough to do the kid activities at that time so he was really bored. RCCL also broke up the times of the kid's club so much my husband and I found it hard to do anything on our own. By the time we dropped the kids off an hour later it was time to pick them up as they closed for lunch and dinner. The schedule was 9-11:30, 2-4, 8-10. So I am hoping for a little more of a break when the kids do go to the kids club on Disney.

I have spoken with several of my friends / coworkers who have travelled on multiple lines and tell us that you can't go wrong with Disney. (My daughter is 10 and son 9). In fact, I have been told that you may have difficulty getting the kids to join you on "family" events as they are having so much fun doing the kids activities.

Hi. Its great to hear my 9 yo daughter may have someone to hang with. We gave her the ability to sign herself in and out of the kids club when we did the on-line check in.
We are also planning to fly in Friday night and stay at the Hyatt at the airport. We do not want to risk missing the cruise b/c of weather or airline delays.
When we sailed on NCL Dawn, we did not like to run back and forth to pick up her up. It didn't make sense to drop her off, pick her up in 2 hours for lunch, drop her off, pick her up etc. So we decided to let her sign in and out since.

OK, Let's see if we can get some traffic generated on this thread. My kids were asking me if there were going to be fewer kids their age on this voyage due to many school systems already in session. (Our schools start the last week of August). I am 43 years old, my wife is a very well preserved 40 (she wouldn't like me placing her age in here), my daughter will turn 11 in Sept and my son is 9.....

We start back mid August but I seem to have no problem taking my kids out to go on a cruise. I'm sure the older the kids are the harder it is to leave during school. I think having a holiday at the beginning of the week might help some people. Instead of missing 5 days of school, we are only missing 4. By thw way, where is everyone from?? Indiana here:rolleyes:

I have my on line forms all filled out.........finally. Filling those out for six people really wiped me out. Now I really need a vacation! Did anyone else reserve Palo? I really wanted brunch but I could only get dinner on the first night we sail. Bummer but oh well. I got it for late enough we could go to dinner with the kids and then go to Palos after. In hindsight, I'm wondering if the kid camp will be open that night. We may not get to go after all if I don't have somewhere to take the kids.

1. don't try to do everything
2. don't forget the sun screen(you can always tell when the ship has visited CC)
3. don't be afraid to enjoy yourself, if you have kids they will be plenty busy with all the great activities for kids
4. spend some quality time with your spouse
5. watch your spending
6. when you leave the ship at a port, don't travel alone, and watch out for pickpockets in crowded stores
7. have fun, drink a little, get lots of pictures
see you on board

FYI, flight does not arrive until 11:30 on Saturday, taking the disney transfer at 1:30 to boat. Any advice on how to get Palo Resses would be helpful, as I think we will be late boarding. Thx!

My husband, myself, and 3 year-old daughter (turning 4 in Oct.) will be on board as well. :o I hope to meet others with kids in this age group, so that she can make friends.
Any advice on clothing to bring? My husband is adverse to dressing up too much on vacation. What is the expectation for evening dress code? If he packs a sportcoat, but no suit or tux, will he be under-dressed?
Also, does anyone know which shore excursions that are best with young kids?
Thanks!

This is our 2nd Disney cruise, just DH and myself. When we went in '04 I packed his sport coat,a nice sport shirt and slacks for Palo and Lumineres. In fact, when we went to Palo, our waiter removed my husband's jacket for him. If you'll check some of the other disney boards like passporters.com or disboards.com you can get a LOT of info on the Disney cruise line from other members. They only set back so many Palo ressies for online check in. They'll most likely have openings that you can reserve when you get on board. I was able to get both dinner and brunch.
Oh,and after the cruise,we'll be spending 6 nights at Disney World! Celebrating our 27th Anniversary and my 49th Birthday.

Welcome to our merry band! I too hate to wear anything more than a polo/golf shirt, khakis and loafers on my vacations. We are probable NOT going to eat at Palos and will skip the formal night dinner too.
We've been to St. Thomas and if you like beaches, Megan;s Bay is really cool. The ride in one of the mini buses is not for the faint of heart though.
Never been to St Maarten's.
Did you sign your 4 yo up for the kid's club?

Martin and Julie signing in. This will be our first Disney cruise. We're Holland America folks (no kids and like upscale ammenities), but when family calls, who can pass up a nice cruise. We'll be traveling with my husband's sister, brother-in-law and their 2 and 4 year old daughters. Now those two just can't wait to get on the ship and meet Cinderella! Everyone has told us there are great places for adults to get away to, but since we will be with the family all the time, will my husband and I get to the point of strangling Goofy by the end of the cruise??? For all of you with kids, if you see two dazed and confused adults pass you by, it's probably us. Just say hi and point us to the closest bar...

The way I understand it is that there will be Disney Shuttles waiting at the airport, once a bus is full, off they go to the boat. The last bus leaves at 1:45. I've also read about people renting a car at the airport and driving to the rental car agency in Port Canaveral. Once you turn you car in, someone will drive you to the boat dock. Best of luck.

My wife and I, along with Disney buds from Scotland will be cruising on this one. (We met them on the Western Caribbean two years ago)
This will be our fifth Disney Cruise, and we're signed up for the 10 day Med cruise on June 27th, 2007. We're also Disney Vacation Club members.
Speaking of which, if you're a DVC member, they'll have some nice meetings on board the ship where you'll get a chance to win some DVC stuff, as well as find out what is happening in the club.
I just found this thread, so hopefully we'll get to know you a bit over the next couple of weeks. (I'm pretty active on one of those "other boards")

Really? I did not know that. Do you know more about it? I am a DVC member and did not know about a meeting. Thanks.
They have meetings on ALL the cruises now for DVC members, usually the second day on board (sometime Sunday). It is informational, but they ALSO know that if we all show up, and they load us down with hats, bags, towels, etc., we'll be running all over the ship promoting DVC in the way that we do.
They used to not do it on the short AND long cruises, but that changed this year. We were on the Wonder in January, and didn't get an invitation, but it was because we were sailing on cash and not points. This put up a red flag in their system, and supposedly they've fixed that glitch as they want all DVC members to attend.
You should receive an invitation in your cabin, but if you don't, just stop by the DVC desk at the top of the steps in the entry way and they'll tell you when and where the meeting is.
