We have booked the Diamond Princess for December 22. The way I figure it, we will be in Puerto Vallarta on Christmas Day. Just wondering for any of you who have cruised on holidays, will everything be closed? Will it be a waisted stop?
Help! Should I rethink this cruise????

I've never taken a Christmas cruise, but I would think since this is a world-wide holiday that the ports would be pretty well dead. Resorts will be open so you can go swimming/snorkeling. But I wouldn't count on much else ashore. I would also think that Princess would realize this and plan some additional special activities for the day.

I have taken several cruises during Xmas. Last year we were in Cozumel and everything was open. The year before in Barbados, most touristy things open.
Should you rethink your decision? NO. As long as a ship is in port there will be plenty of locals there wanting to make a buck.

That makes sense. I forgot ... they're not governed by a union!

We were in St. Maarten on Christmas Day 2002. The stores were closed. The beach was open http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif with the usual vendors.

We've been on 3 cruises during xmas, to Barbados. The whole town is closed. Have never seen it. Drove through it & was like a ghost town.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am still hoping to hear from someone who has done this itinerary during the holidays.
I did email one of the canopy tour groups in PV with my question and they told me they would be closed. Can't say that I blame them, but I am still unsure about this cruise.
Anyone else have an opinion???
