Looking ointo ALaska cruise out of San Fran on the Regal Princess.

Would like to hear from others who have sailed on her. Are the cabins small? I know the ship is older, is is well kept? The oldest ship we have been on is the Mercury and the Century built in mid 90's. Both were wonderful - the Mercury so far is one of my favorite ships. How does the Regal compare?

Thanks for any info you can share. I always like to get opinions from other cruisers before I book.

We were on the Crown, the sister to the Regal. We had a standard outside cabin, about 190 sq feet, VERY spacious with a really large shower, you could turn around, bend over, etc. We liked the lay out of the ship, it was easy to get around.

Just off Mercury (March '04), last on Regal Princess Mar '01.

Ships very comparable in size and general layout, and I thought condition about the same, even though the Regal is older. I think both ships have been well maintained.

I thought food and its presentation better on Mercury in dining room, but very comparable in Lido. Mercury's dining room prettier than Regal Princess.

Cabin sizes similar (at least ours). I thought main show lounge on Regal Princess had better sight lines, and the production shows on Princess have fancier sets and I think better costumes - talent of dancers about equal.

Bottom line - I liked both ships - and both have their pluses and minuses.

We sailed on the Regal at Thanksgiving and loved her. The cabins are larger than most. She has been very well maintained. We are sailing her to Alaska on 8/14. Why don't you join us?

We sailed the Regal last year. Fine ship. We found her spacious, easy to navigate through, well-maintained, and classy.

The cabins are most spscious;even had empty drawers. Hope they have replaced the chef that was on there 2 years ago- awful food! Other than that loved the ship

If Brent Nixon is doing his lecture series on Regal Princess, be sure to make time to hear him. Last time we cruised the R/T on her, his lectures started out with very few people attending. When word-of-mouth got around as to how fantastic a speaker he is (more an entertainer) he lectured to a full house. He lectures on whales, bears, sea otters, and other Alaskan related animals.

We are just off the Regal. I liked this ship. I have written a review, Part 1 was posted yesterday. I had no complaints and would gladly sail the Regal again. We went to Hawaii instead of Alaska, but the Dome viewing area in the casino would be a great advantage in an Alaska sailing to view and not get cold.

Originally, I had the same concerns as yours. But they turned out to have no foundation whatsoever.

Go and Enjoy!!

SharB - I agree with you 100% about Brent - he was FANTASTIC. I was on the Regal in July 2002 and tried to listen to every one of his lectures. Hi Gloria & Bob - Your review is great and I will jump in and add a few things early next week. I was also on the Regal April 5th - truly like the ship.

SharB,
I realize the review I pointed you to was a purely personal view of our trip, as is the ports of call review. I am trying to get a post written with just the details of the ship. I'll title it Regal Princess Details so it will be easy for you to find once I get it on the board. Hope it helps.
