View Full Version : Shareholder Onboard Credit?

OK, this is greedy, and I acknowledge it.
I've owned CCL stock for many years, but less than 100 shares. With the new drop in price, I've bought more shares and now have over the 100 required to receive a shareholder onboard credit.
We are sailing Statendam May 26 ... is it possible for us to bring the stock account statement to the pursers desk and ask for the OBC to be applied ? Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, all ....

I think it has to be confirmed through Seattle for the credit to be given. I doubt that it could be handled on board. Fax a copy of your brokerage statement to 206-298-3059 attention Reservation Administration. Include your booking number, ship sailing date, and departure port.

Follow up with a phone call to 1-800-993-5483 to confirm receipt

Thanks for the info. I'll fax and call tomorrow ...
And thanks for not thinking I'm stingy ... lol .... I'm of the mindset that $100 is $100, after all ...

Grumpy is correct. It cannot be handled on board. Make sure you bring a copy of the confirmation with you.
When you board check to make sure the credit is in your account.

Our TA keeps a copy for her records. Then at the appropriate time she faxes HAL with the information and HAL confirms it. We always take a copy of the final confirmation with us. Also I always copy the vouchers just in case they lose it on the ship.

I appreciate all the input. My main concern was the closeness of sailing ... May 26. And we're leaving Sunday for the land portion, so I wanted to make sure the OBC was posted if at all possible.
And thanks, Grumpy ... I do prefer frugal to stingy ... lol ....
I'll let y'all know how we enjoy our Statendam cruise!

I've been thinking of purchasing enough Carnival Stock to get the "on-board credit" perk for quite some time, as we've two HAL cruises in the next year or so and I've already missed out on the OBC for our past Princess & Cunard cruises.

I'm extremely interested in doing that NOW, since the prices have dropped so dramatically. My major concern is that (in light of Carnival's recent financial difficulties) Carnival Corp. might decide to "remove" the OBC perk which would, therefore, nullify my purposes.

So, my question to all current shareholders is: HOW LONG HAS THIS "On-Board Credit" PERK TO STOCKHOLDERS BEEN IN EXISTENCE -and- HAS IT EVER BEEN WITHDRAWN IN THE PAST?

I appreciate all your words of wisdom! THANKS!

I have no idea how long it has been around. At one time, to receive the benefit all that was needed was to own stock. People were buying 1 share just to qualify. CCL changed the rules and made it 100 shares to qualify.

To my knowledge they have never dropped the benefit, even when it dropped to 16.00-18.00 after 911, it was still honored.

I can vouch that the OBC was offered by CCL in late 2002, and there was not a 100-share limit. I'm not sure when the 100 share cap came into effect...

 I am sure CCL required 100 shares before 911, 2001.
I don't know the exact year it changed. I don't remember when we bought ours, but it was before 911 and CCL required 100. We bought more a couple days after 911 when the stock dropped.

Very probable that I am wrong ... dates tend to get away from me. Thanks for the correction ...

:) Dates get away from me too. I don't think it was too long before 2001 but the exact year I just don't know !

I had it handled while aboard Noordam - only took a couple days for Seattle to verify and let the desk know to credit my shipboard account.

All I had to do was supply a printout of my brokerage account page showing my CCL holdings to the front desk - they took care of everything else.

bepsf,

Now that is a new one ! Glad to hear you got it.

I haven't read about someone trying to get it while on board in a very long time. The few that tried were denied and told it had to be done ahead of time through Seattle.

I just called HAL Res Admin and asked if my Shareholder Onboard Credit had been applied. We're leaving for the Cruisetour Sunday, so I want to make sure my last-minute request was handled OK.
The Res Admin agent refused to speak with me about the OBC, saying they were contractually obligated to speak ONLY with the travel agent. I said it was a Shareholder OBC and the travel agency had not been involved, and the HAL Res Admin agent refused again, albeit politely.
I said I'd spoken to HAL Res Admin this morning and they asked me to call back in a few hours to check the status. The HAL Res Admin agent told me that whomever I'd spoken with apparently did not know the rules: that they CANNOT speak to a passenger who booked with an agency.
I sighed. She put me on hold. She came back and said "Yes, it's on, but we cannot discuss the amount with you".
So ..... I called the travel agency we used and they are phoning on my behalf and calling me back to verify the correct amount.
Dontcha just love it ....
But, hey, $100 is $100 ....

Hi Grumpy and thanks for the "800" phone number to confirm my shipboard credit. I never thought about confirmation! Duh!! Here's hoping:-)

Brian, Glad to hear you were able to get it. I will be taking my brokerage statement with me, just in case it doesn't show up in the ship computer. I'll also have a copy of the fax that I sent. Sometimes things get lost between Seattle and the ship.

Thanks everyone...
...for the tidbits about the CARNIVAL STOCK "on-board" credit history. It is nice to know that it wasn't "recalled" after 9/11/01...even when the stock prices dropped SOOOO LOW. I wish I knew about all this back then...oh well...better now than never!
