Now that Princess has a new port in Galveston, what is the best way to get there from the northeast?

If you fly with Continental you can fly to IAH (Bush) then fly to Ellington (free) pick up a rental car and you are about 5 miles from the Johnson Space Center, if you have time, and 25 miles to Galveston. Second best is to fly to Hobby about 35 miles from Galveston. Last is fly to Bush which is north on Houston and if there is any real bad traffic can take a couple of hours.

As a follow up to the previous post, I believe I read that Continental is cancelling the Houston IAH to Ellington shuttle sometime this summer.

That's true, Continental is cancelling that service. Flying into Hobby is so painless... I would do that. You can go to www.galvestoncruises.com (http://www.galvestoncruises.com) for info on transportation from the airport to the cruise terminal, as well as hotels for the night before.

Southwest Airlines flies from Islip to Hobby in Houston! Then you are a short, very happy drive away!

FYI called Contintental 4/20/04 and they will be flying in and out of Ellington until Sept. 2004. Of course they can always change their mind either way.
